CES 2021: Dell presents two new monitors at once with UltraSharp 38 and 40

The new year starts with exciting news about upcoming products for technology fans. The reason for this is this year’s CES. Among others, manufacturer Dell has presented some new exciting products that are to be launched on the market soon. Besides powerful notebooks, interesting monitors are also included. First and foremost, the UltraSharp monitors from the US company have aroused the interest of many technology enthusiasts. They are not only supposed to be pleasingly large and offer a high resolution. On top of that, Dell promises practical features like an integrated USB-C dock.

Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD Monitor

The larger of the two monitors presented is said to go by the abbreviated name Dell U4021QW. With a screen diagonal of 39.7 inches, it should be able to provide a lot of overview in the home office. Thanks to the high resolution, you don’t have to worry about hurting eyes. Dell states that the monitor should have a resolution of 5,120 x 2,160 pixels. The manufacturer relies on 21:9 for the IPS panel’s format, which makes the monitor especially suitable for working in split-screen mode. Thanks to a color space coverage of 98% of the DCI P3, the monitor can also be used for image editing or video editing. However, this value is not really outstanding. Dell’s upcoming monitor also only achieves average rates in terms of brightness. The company specifies 300 nits here. Thus, those who like to work with HDR content or watch the same will not necessarily be happy here.

In terms of connectivity, the 40-inch monitor can definitely score. The PC can be connected via DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.0. While the connection via DisplayPort allows 60 Hz refresh rates, only 30 Hz are possible via HDMI 2.0. If you want, you can also use the Thunderbolt 3 port. The third connection option has advantages for notebook users in particular. The mobile computer can be charged simultaneously with up to 90 watts when connected. Dell also installs one USB-C (3.2 Gen 2) and five USB-A ports (3.2 Gen 2). Last but not least, the monitor has an AUX port and Ethernet. When using the Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD monitor, you do not necessarily have to attach speakers or wear headphones. The monitor conveniently has two integrated speakers that provide 2 x 9 watts of power. Thanks to the height-adjustable base, manufacturer Dell can also score with its ergonomics.

If two inches less screen diagonal and slightly slimmed-down features are enough for you, you should take a look at the Dell U3821DW. This model is not only smaller, but also a bit cheaper than its big brother. However, you do not only have to make slight concessions in terms of screen size. The IPS panel of the U3821DW has a much lower resolution than the 40-inch model. However, average users should still be well served with 3,840 x 1,600 pixels. The coverage of the DCI P3 color space is also a bit worse. Instead of the 98 percent of the larger model, only 95 percent is offered here. However, the slightly weaker display also brings a decisive advantage. Unlike the larger model, the Dell U3821DW can also output the 60 Hz refresh rate via HDMI 2.0. Dell has completely omitted a DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 3 here. Nevertheless, the 37.5-inch monitor offers USB-C and four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports.

Prices and availability

On January 28, the time has come in the US. That’s when the two new monitors are scheduled to hit the market. For the UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD monitor, Dell wants to call up an MSRP of a proud $2,099. The slightly smaller model, on the other hand, is to be launched at a much lower MSRP. Dell charges an MSRP of $1,399 for the UltraSharp 38 Curved USB-C Hub monitor. We do not yet know how the prices will turn out in Europe.
