CES 2021: ROG Zephyrus G14 and G15 will be upgraded

Asus upgrades two of its popular gaming notebooks. These are the Zephyrus G14 and G15. In addition to the increased processor performance with an AMD Ryzen 5000, the GeForce RTX 3000 should also provide more graphics performance.

Update of already known gaming notebooks

Already last year, the 14 and 15-inch gaming notebooks were presented to the world public. By and large, the 2021 version is a performance upgrade of last year’s notebook. At first glance, you might not realize how much Asus has tweaked. However, it quickly becomes clear in the specs that the hardware expert has revised quite a bit. Processor, graphics performance and display are affected.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (version 2021)

Those who opt for the strongest processor in this year’s G14 will get the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS. Thus, the maximum features eight cores and 16 threads. The processor is supported by at least 8 GB of RAM. In the maximum configuration, the working memory can be increased to a maximum of 24 GB. Asus ROG relies on an 8 GB + 16 GB solution here. The old model from 2020 relied on a GeForce RTX 2060 in the maximum features, and the manufacturer has given it a significant upgrade. Finally, the high-performance GeForce RTX 3060 is now available as an option.

The razor-sharp display is also optional, which resolves with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and presents smooth motion pictures thanks to 120 Hz. Unfortunately, the 144 Hz version will not be available in Germany for the time being. The basic version, on the other hand, has a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Although the resolution is lower, you do not have to do without 120 Hz here either. Furthermore, the base version comes with a Ryzen 7 5800HS. In terms of graphics card, the cheapest features a GeForce GTX 1650.

Regardless of the features lineup, each model comes with an SSD with 1 TB of storage. The dimensions of the 14-inch notebook are hardly different from the predecessor at 32.4 cm x 22.0 cm x 1.79 cm. The same applies for the weight of 1.6 kg. A look at the G14’s ports shows that Asus delivers almost identical work here as well. The battery with 76 watt hours of power should ensure that you will also be able to do some mobile gaming.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 (version 2021)

In terms of processor, the larger model also offers a Ryzen 9 5900HS in the top features. However, you can optionally look forward to a somewhat stronger GeForce RTX 3080. It comes with 8 GB VRAM. The higher frame rate is striking. You can optionally choose a display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz for the Zephyrus G15. This offers a response time of 3 ms and a sharp resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Friends of fast shooters should also be happy with these rates.

You should be able to choose between 8 or 16 GB of working memory. However, since the gaming notebook has room for another module for up to 16 GB, a maximum of 32 GB is possible. SSDs with 1 TB are also installed in the upcoming 15-inch gaming notebook. The battery, on the other hand, is bigger than in the 14-inch model. ROG installs a battery with 90 watt hours. In combination with the larger dimensions of 35.5 cm x 24.3 cm x 1.99 cm, this also ensures a higher total weight of 1.9 kg than the smaller device.

Prices and availability still unknown

It is still unknown when the two gaming notebooks from Asus’ gaming line ROG will hit the stores.
