CES 2022: Chrysler presents its first e-car

Chrysler has surprised the global public at CES 2022 with its first own electric car. The traditional company’s premiere is to go by the name “Airflow” and offer a range of around 600 km.

The entry into electric mobility

So now Chrysler also wants to climb or rather travel new paths and enter the electric car market. The debut vehicle called Airflow should serve the guests of this year’s CES as the first concept of the upcoming model series.

Similar to Volkswagen’s ID.4, the Airflow is a so-called crossover SUV – a mixture of a classic small car and a genuine SUV. The electric runabout is to be based on the so-called STLA platform. We can already see some of the platforms from the Stellantis company in the electric cars from Peugeot and Opel.

A proud range

For drivers of an electric car, of course, the range plays a major role. And here Chrysler promises a lot. For example, the two 150 kW electric motors are said to be able to take the Airflow up to 640 kilometers. The U.S. company also wants to score in terms of technology.

This applies not only to entertainment, but also to safety and assistance systems. For example, level 3 autonomous driving is to be possible. Three large screens in the cockpit, which are to be located on the entire dashboard from the driver’s seat to the front passenger seat, are to provide an overview and good operability. Entertainment is also to be provided on the rear seat. Chrysler is also installing a display for this purpose.

Release 2025

We’ll have to wait a little longer before Chrysler launches its Airflow. That’s because it’s supposed to be ready in 2025. It is questionable whether the e-car will not already be obsolete by then. Accordingly, we can probably assume that the carmaker will make a few adjustments over time. By the way, the Airflow is not to remain the only e-car from Chrysler. According to its own information, Chrysler is already planning a whole fleet of vehicles with electric motors. They should be available in 2028.
