CES 2022: Samsung wants to launch its own gaming hub

Samsung is moving into the gaming world. This time, however, the focus is not on a gaming monitor, but on a newly founded platform. The so-called “gaming hub” is supposed to enable gaming via streaming.

Integration in 2022 TV models planned

What the South Korean consumer electronics group announced at CES 2022 should make casual gamers’ hearts beat faster. Casual gamers who don’t necessarily want to buy a gaming PC or console will be able to comfortably gamble on Samsung’s TV in the future. The gaming hub is supposed to make it possible. Samsung has enlisted the help of active cooperation partners to ensure that cloud gaming works well and can offer an extensive library. Besides the NVIDIA GeForce NOW service, Google Stadia is also supposed to be part of it. Buyers of one of the 2022 TV models should be able to enjoy the gaming hub.

Samsung TVs are becoming jack-of-all-trades

Mike Henkelmann, director of marketing consumer electronics at Samsung, makes it clear what the company’s goal is:

“Our Samsung Smart TVs offer a multi-faceted entertainment experience for different generations, interests and viewing habits”

Of course, this no longer only includes the enjoyment of a good BluRay or the linear television program. Meanwhile, with Netflix, Disney+ and Co. streaming offers are also at the top of the list when it comes to TV entertainment. Samsung now wants to take a further step. Henkelmann goes on to say

“We know that gaming is becoming increasingly popular with our customers. That’s why we have closed the gap between our smart TVs and modern gaming software. This allows our customers to access the games they love quickly and easily. We have developed the Samsung Gaming Hub together with our outstanding content partners so that all gamers can benefit from it. We plan more collaborations to steadily expand the ecosystem.”

Keep track

Anyone who is a subscriber to several streaming services at once, like me, knows how hard it is to keep track of everything. Thus, one misses many delicacies. It is especially annoying when you buy content from one streaming service that is available for free from another provider. Samsung seems to have transferred this problem to cloud gaming in its gaming hub and wants to solve it. The South Koreans see themselves as an interface between providers like NVIDIA GeForce NOW or Stadia with their special hub. The user should always have an overview of his games and not have to check every single provider. Samsung says it relies on Tizen-based hardware to ensure that everything flickers smoothly across the screen.

Partners are also pleased

With the Gaming Hub, Samsung could not only create a very good reason to buy for potential customers.  On top of that, partners like Google and Nvidia are very happy about the partnership. After all, the two services are not doing so well. We really like Samsung’s first pictures already. The Gaming Hub looks wonderfully clear. We are curious whether the South Koreans can give cloud gaming a new boost.
