CES 2023: Dell G16 comes in classic gaming look

Dell has a particularly broad lineup at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. The US company is not only represented with various gaming machines from its own gaming brand Alienware, such as the Aurora R15. On top of that, it introduces exciting gaming notebooks with Dell’s logo on them. One example is the Dell G16, which not only wants to score with a high refresh rate. On top of that, it comes with modern processor and graphics technology.

Latest generation processor and graphics technology

The Dell G16 was presented in the same breath as the Dell G15 (we reported) just in time for CES 2023. Like its sibling, the G16 is characterized by a rather bulky design that is reminiscent of classic gaming notebooks. However, it is not only the looks that make it clear that this is a real gaming machine. The Dell subsidiary also creates the best conditions under the hood. In terms of processors, buyers can choose between a total of four different CPUs from Intel. The basic version offers an Intel Core i5-13450HX. If you want more, you can also choose the Intel Core i7-13650HX, Intel Core i7-13700HX or even the Core i9-13900HX.

There is also freedom of choice in the display. Whereby the resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels is without alternative. Both screen options offer this. The same applies for the brightness. The displays offer an impressive 300 cd/m². However, there are clear differences in the color space coverage and the refresh rate. One display concentrates on the sRGB color space and covers it completely. It offers a good refresh rate of 165 Hz. If you want more Hz, you should take a look at the other option with a proud 240 Hz. This then again covers the DCI-P3 color space completely.

Dell G16 offers up to 32 GB RAM and 2 TB flash storage

With a total weight of at least 2.73 kg, the notebook is anything but light. In combination to a thickness of 2.6 cm, it becomes clear that this is more of a replacement for the desktop PC at home. In view of the other specs, you will probably not have to regret this exchange. Thus, up to 32 GB of working memory is possible with the Dell G16.

The pre-installed SSD can again be up to 2 TB in size. There are also supposed to be two different options for the battery. Besides the standard 56 Wh capacity battery, you should also be able to opt for a much larger 86 Wh battery for an additional charge.

In order to work and gamble well in low-light conditions, the notebook offers a keyboard with Cherry MX mechanical keys, which features RGB lighting. In terms of connectivity, the notebook seems to offer the most necessary. It comes with USB-C and USB-A, but also HDMI 2.1. The USB-C port should also be able to offer Thunderbolt 4 in a certain configuration.

Price and availability

The Dell G16 could be interesting for those who are looking for a notebook that can be used for work, but also for gaming. A base price starting at $1,500 sounds quite fair in view of the pleasingly good configuration. The gaming notebook is supposed to be launched in spring. AMD fans should still show some patience. After all, Dell wants to add an AMD-equipped version in the second quarter of 2023.
