Matter standard at Ecovacs
In the field of robot vacuums, Ecovacs is a leader with models such as the T20 OMNI (Review | € 731.43 *). Recently, however, Ecovacs vacuum robots have been making negative headlines. It was discovered that a security vulnerability allows third parties to access the smart household helpers.
Finally some positive news from the manufacturer. At CES 2025, Ecovacs not only announced five upcoming robot mowers. The company also announced that its upcoming Deebot X8 and Deebot T50 robotic vacuum cleaners will support the Matter standard.
Matter is a cross-manufacturer smart home standard designed to facilitate interoperability between different devices and platforms. Matter has also supported vacuum robots since version 1.2, but implementation has so far been limited. This could change with the planned integration into the new Deebot models from Ecovacs.
Technical details on the new standard at Ecovacs
Ecovacs is currently in the certification phase for the Matter integration of the X8 and T50 models. The devices are being tested in the Connectivity Standards Alliance laboratory. Certification is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. It is currently not known whether the robots will be launched directly onto the market with Matter support or whether they will require an update.
Compatibility with Apple’s developments
At the same time, Apple is working on supporting vacuum robots via Matter, which is to be introduced with iOS 18.3. It remains to be seen how many functions of the new Deebot models will be available via Matter direct control, as Matter only offers a limited range of functions as standard.
Market launch and availability
Ecovacs plans to launch the new Deebot X8 and T50 models in the middle to end of the first quarter of 2025. Pricing information and exact availability dates have not yet been announced. Interested parties should follow the manufacturer’s official announcements for the latest information.
