CES 2026: ASUS presents the ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses

The world of gaming is rapidly evolving from stationary monitors to immersive, mobile solutions. With the launch of the ROG XREAL R1, ASUS Republic of Gamers is setting a new milestone in cooperation with XREAL. These augmented reality glasses promise to integrate the performance of a high-end gaming monitor into a compact wearable that weighs just 91 grams. Whether on a PC at home, on a console or on the go with the ROG Ally, the R1 aims to revolutionize the gaming experience with a huge virtual display and extremely high refresh rates.

  • Ultra-fast display: The world’s first AR glasses with 240 Hz micro OLED technology and full HD resolution for absolutely smooth gameplay.
  • Immersive size: Simulates a virtual battlefield of up to 171 inches, which can be firmly anchored in space thanks to 3DoF tracking.
  • ROG Control Dock: Comprehensive connectivity for PCs and consoles via HDMI and DisplayPort, including simple switching function.
  • Premium features: Electrochromic darkening of the glasses and integrated surround sound developed in collaboration with Bose.

Maximum performance thanks to 240 Hz and Micro-OLED

The visual experience is at the heart of the technological innovation. While conventional AR solutions often stagnate at 60 or 120 Hz, the ROG XREAL R1 breaks the 240 Hz barrier. In combination with the built-in micro OLED panels, which deliver a Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), the result is a picture quality that smoothly reproduces even the most demanding e-sports titles. The extremely low latency of just 2 milliseconds (motion-to-photon) ensures that head movements and screen content are synchronized almost instantaneously. This not only minimizes motion blur, but also reduces the risk of motion sickness, which is crucial for longer gaming sessions.

The 57-degree field of view covers around 95% of the focused viewing area, giving the impression of standing directly in front of a 171-inch screen about four meters away. The integrated Spatial Co-Processing X1 chip also gives users full control over the display: the virtual image can be enlarged, reduced or shifted in depth at the touch of a button. This flexibility makes it possible to adapt the display precisely to your own preferences or the respective gaming environment without neglecting the physical ergonomics. Thanks to the low weight of 91 grams, wearing comfort is maintained even over several hours, making the glasses a real alternative for commuters or travelers.

Seamless integration and intelligent adjustment

Special attention has been paid to compatibility within the existing hardware market. The included ROG Control Dock acts as a central control point. It has a DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 ports, which enables quick switching between gaming PC and console. For owners of a ROG Ally handheld, use is particularly easy: the glasses are immediately ready for use via a direct USB-C connection (plug-and-play), while the touchscreen control of the handheld is retained for navigation. This makes the combination of glasses and handheld one of the most powerful mobile gaming solutions of the current generation.

Another highlight is the electrochromic lens technology. This makes it possible to manually or even intelligently adjust the transparency of the lenses in three stages. For example, if the wearer looks away from the virtual screen, the lenses become more transparent in order to better perceive the surroundings. As soon as the focus returns to the game, they darken automatically to maximize contrast and immersion. The technical package is rounded off by a sound system from Bose. The precisely tuned three-dimensional sound stage ensures that even the finest acoustic details, such as enemy footsteps, can be located spatially correctly. This not only enhances the atmosphere, but also offers a real tactical advantage in competitive games.

Conclusion and market launch

The ASUS ROG XREAL R1 marks the next logical step in the evolution of spatial gaming displays. The combination of extreme refresh rate, light weight and the expertise of XREAL and Bose creates a product that further blurs the boundaries between physical and virtual reality. The versatility of the ROG Control Dock in particular makes it an interesting tool for tech enthusiasts who want to use their hardware flexibly. Worldwide delivery of the ROG XREAL R1 is planned for the first half of 2026. A specific price has not yet been finally confirmed, but is likely to be in the range of comparable premium AR solutions.
