CES 2026: GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron takes modular mobile controllers to a new level

The GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron defines what a mobile controller can achieve: As the world’s first fully modular controller for smartphones, tablets and Nintendo Switch, it combines retro charm with modern high-end technology and extremely flexible customizability. With interchangeable modules for sticks, D-pad and buttons, support for many platforms and precise input technology, the controller is aimed equally at retro fans, mobile gamers and competitive players who don’t want to compromise on the go. The X5 Alteron will celebrate its premiere at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

  • Fully modular mobile controller with interchangeable button, stick and D-pad modules.
  • Support for iPhone, iPad, Android, Nintendo Switch (1|2) and PC via Bluetooth 5.2.
  • Special modules such as Fight Pad, GameCube, N64 and trackpad layout for various genres.
  • Capacitive sticks, Hall effect trigger, rumble, back buttons and 213 mm telescopic arm for flexible use.

GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron: Focus on modularity and platform versatility

The GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron is presented as the world’s first fully modular mobile gaming controller that can change its shape, size and input layouts almost at will. This is made possible by an extensive modular system that allows analog sticks, D-pad and front buttons to be interchanged to cover a variety of configurations from classic dual-stick setups to specialized fight-pad layouts. The modules are magnetically attached and sit flush with the controller surface, creating a clean yet eye-catching design that combines Hyperkin’s colorful retro aesthetic with GameSir’s ergonomic design language.

The controller features an extendable telescopic arm that supports device widths of up to 213 mm, allowing it to cover not only popular smartphones but also larger handhelds and tablets. Thanks to GameSir’s multi-platform technology, iPhone, iPad, Android devices as well as Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are connected wirelessly, with Bluetooth 5.2 ensuring a stable, low-latency connection. In addition, the X5 Alteron can also be used on a PC via Bluetooth, allowing mobile and stationary gaming scenarios to be covered with a single controller.

One controller, endless possibilities: modules, layouts and input technology

The motto “One Controller, Endless Possibilities” is reflected above all in the large number of modules and layout options. In addition to classic twin-stick setups, asymmetrical arrangements and a top-stick configuration are also available, so that the handling can be based on popular controller designs from various platforms. Hot-swappable ABXY buttons allow users to switch between X-input layout and switch layout, while a transformable D-pad supports different preferences from precise 4-way control to fighting-game style.

The special modules are particularly exciting: A GameCube module and an N64 module address retro fans and emulator users, while a dedicated fight pad module is designed for precise 2D fighters and a trackpad module enables mouse-like inputs, especially in FPS titles or PC-like scenarios. The modular concept is complemented by different stick heights that can be adjusted depending on the genre – such as higher sticks for finer aim control in shooters.

In terms of technology, the X5 Alteron relies on capacitive sticks, which, unlike classic potentiometer solutions, do not require mechanical abrasion and should therefore practically eliminate stick drift. Hall-effect analog triggers with “mouse-click” characteristics are used on the back, which should enable fast and precise inputs – an approach familiar from the pro controller segment. There are also rumble motors for haptic feedback, additional back buttons for freely assignable functions and a combination of tactile and membrane buttons, which are designed to provide a precise but not too loud clicking sensation.

CES 2026 premiere, target and availability

The X5 Alteron will make its public debut at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, where the controller will be shown both at the ShowStoppers event at the Bellagio and in the Hyperkin suite. Initial hands-on impressions are still based on a non-final prototype, in which the modules were sometimes difficult to detach – a point that is likely to be optimized before the start of series production. GameSir and Hyperkin are clearly positioning the controller as the new reference in the field of modular mobile hardware, especially for players who switch between retro titles, cloud gaming and modern AAA releases on different platforms.

Concrete details on price and final market launch are still pending, the manufacturers are currently talking about a presentation at the CES without a confirmed release date. In view of the complex module technology, the broad platform support and the built-in input technologies, the X5 Alteron is likely to be in the mid to upper price segment, even if exact figures have not yet been communicated. Interested parties who would like to see the controller live at the trade fair are requested to contact the responsible PR agency in advance by e-mail to obtain further details and dates.

The GameSir x Hyperkin X5 Alteron is thus a controller concept that pushes mobile gaming much more towards a “console-like” quality of experience – with a modular approach that appeals to both retro fans and competitive gamers and could serve as a blueprint for customizable controller designs in the future
