Chimera: E-BMX bike comes with 3,800 watts and titanium frame

Yep, BMX bikes are now also electric. However, E-BMX bikes are still a rarity. Theoretically, you could also turn a classic BMX into an e-bike with the Skarper Kit. The Chimera Electric BMX, which the manufacturer has now presented, proves what a complete solution could look like. Special features include, in addition to the BMX design, a whopping 3,800 watts of power, a speed of up to 56 km/h and a frame made of titanium.

Chimera Electric BMX officially unveiled

The Chimera Electric BMX is a real beast. A maximum of 35 miles per hour, the equivalent of just under 56 km/h, is how fast the E-BMX bike is supposed to get. This is made possible by the installed motor, which provides a power of up to 3,800 watts. The motor is even said to be capable of delivering a maximum of 5,000 watts. This makes it clear that the Chimera is not approved for use on German roads. So far, however, the bike has only been announced for the USA.

The rest of the configuration of the low and light BMX bike is also unusual. For example, the engine sits directly below the saddle. It lies open and reveals the view of the two chains that connect the drive unit with the pedals, as well as the rear wheel.

In terms of materials, the Chimera Electric BMX relies entirely on a titanium frame, resulting in a particularly low weight. Around 15.4 kg weighs the entire construction, 1.5 kg of which is accounted for by the motor alone.

High-tech features

The titanium frame, fork and handlebars of the Chimera Electric BMX are protected against rust and are available with adonization if desired. The engine itself is waterproof – amazing, since it’s completely open under the saddle.

This is joined by a clutch made of hardened chrome, which not only turns out to be particularly robust, but is also supposed to work very quietly and react almost without delay.

The ASI BAC855 controller used is said to feature high performance and can even be controlled via app via Bluetooth. Braking is apparently with disc brakes, at least that’s what the product photos indicate.

Price and Availability

Via the official product website of the Chimera Electric BMX you can sign up for a newsletter and get early access, as well as a limited preferential price. Pricing itself is unknown at this time. Financed is the E-BMX bike apparently by Crowdfunding. A corresponding page on the platform Indiegogo is already available, but the campaign has not yet started.
