Corona-Warn-App now offers “total evidence”

The Corona-Warn-App of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which became so important during the pandemic, offers a new feature. Now you can display your current status, such as 3G, while adhering to the highest data protection standards. This should make it immensely easier to visit restaurants and cultural events in particular.

Vaccination and test certificate in one

Digitizing proof of vaccination or test results is nothing new in the Corona app space. However, the latest version of the Corona-Warn-App offers the possibility to combine both in one “overall status”. For example, anyone who has already received the third vaccination and is also tested will receive the status “3G+”. In total, the app is thus able to display four different statuses (2G, 2G+, 3G and 3G+). The scan via the app is supposed to be completely uncomplicated. It is only important that the vaccination and test data, such as name and date of birth, match. Otherwise, problems may arise. To be able to switch between both proofs (test result and vaccination certificate), the developers have implemented a corresponding button.

Maximum data security

Developed in collaboration between the RKI, SAP and Telekom, the app has always been considered a pioneer in the field of data security when it comes to Corona-Warn-Apps. Of course, those responsible have once again made sure that users’ personal data is protected in the best possible way. This already starts with the way the certificate is issued. For example, it is not clear whether the certificate is the result of a covid disease or a vaccination. The app merely tells the verifier whether the certificate is valid or not.

The Corona-Warn-App still seems to be miles ahead of the Luca-App, which has been criticized in recent days and weeks, when it comes to data security. It should be possible to check in anonymously at e.g. restaurants. In the case of its counterpart, which was heavily advertised by Fanta 4 singer Smudo, among others, there is no alternative to providing personal data. A recent data access by the police in Mainz, which went through the press, makes it clear what weaknesses the Luca app has compared to the classic Corona-Warn-App.

Available now

Should you want to secure the latest version of the Corona-Warn-App, you can already download it for your iOS device. Android smartphone owners, on the other hand, will have to wait until tomorrow, January 19.
