Compact design
CORSAIR positions the 2800X as a smaller alternative to the FRAME 5000D and the 3500X: it features the same design language but is tailored for Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. Despite its more compact form factor, the interior remains spacious. Graphics cards can be up to 410 mm long, meaning even the latest high-end GPUs fit without any issues.
That said, the space required by an ATX design doesn’t disappear entirely: At around 447 mm deep, the 2800X isn’t particularly compact for a Micro-ATX case. If you really want to save space on your desk, you should opt for a dedicated Mini-ITX case instead. The 2800X’s advantage lies elsewhere: It offers nearly all the cooling and expansion capabilities of an ATX tower, just without the unused PCIe slots.
The side panel comes standard with three RS120-R ARGB PWM fans, which CORSAIR introduced earlier this year as a dedicated fan series for builds with glass fronts. The key feature of the reverse design: The motor is located at the rear, so the fan blades remain fully visible and the RGB lighting isn’t obscured by the hub. All three fans are daisy-chained, both for the PWM and ARGB connectors—a single cable to the motherboard is all that’s needed.
In total, up to ten 120-mm fans can be installed: three on the sides, up to three on top (or two 140-mm models), one at the rear, and two on the power supply cover. Radiators up to 360 mm fit in the top panel and up to 280 mm on the sides. One drawback in practice: The case comes from the factory without a rear fan for exhaust air. The GPU temperature was therefore comparatively high at around 78 degrees until additional top fans were added. At maximum speed, the RS120-R fans measure around 47 dB(A), but thanks to magnetic bearings and ZeroRPM mode, they can also be operated much more quietly or completely silently.
DIY-Features
The 2800X supports motherboards with rear connectors from ASUS (BTF), MSI (Project Zero), and GIGABYTE (Project Stealth), allowing cables to be completely hidden behind the motherboard tray. This is complemented by an integrated, adjustable GPU anti-sag arm that prevents heavy graphics cards from sagging, as well as three Velcro straps for cable management in the rear area. For additional storage, a combo drive rail is available for two 2.5-inch SSDs or one 3.5-inch HDD.
The top I/O panel features a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port (5 Gbit/s) and a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C port with speeds of up to 20 Gbit/s.
