The recently announced Crucial P5 Plus SSD is now available. Thereby, the PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD in M.2 format offers a read speed of up to 6,600 MB/s, which is a significant increase compared to the predecessor Crucial P5 (3,400 MB/s, PCIe 3.0).
Crucial P5 Plus with high speed
Crucial equips the P5 Plus with Advanced NAND and PCIe 4.0 NVMe technology, thanks to which it achieves almost twice the speed of its predecessor. It was developed together with Micron and relies on TLC 3D NAND of the 176-layer generation with a fast NAND interface (1,600 MT/s) – the maximum currently possible.
Thus, the M.2 SSD achieves a read speed of up to 6,600 MB/s, with a mean time to failure (MTTF) of 2 million hours. The write speed as well as the lifespan (TBW), on the other hand, vary depending on the model:
Crucial offers the P5 Plus in 500 GB (300 TBW), 1 terabyte (600 TBW) and 2 terabyte (1,200 TBW) sizes. The smallest model achieves 4,000 MB/s in sequential writing, the two larger variants even 5,000 MB/s. In return, the manufacturer offers a 5-year warranty.
Prices and availability
The Crucial P5 Plus is available in stores immediately. Prices currently start at €109.90 for the 500 GB variant, while around €183.90 is currently due for double the storage space. 2 terabytes, on the other hand, are priced at €379.00.
At the same time, the prices for the predecessor Crucial P5 (our review) are in a nosedive. Currently, only € 64.70 is called for 500 GB, 2 TB are already available from € 248.00.
