Deliberate plane crash: Trevor Jacob faces long imprisonment
YouTube Trevor Jacob intentionally caused a plane crash in order to film it and thus skyrocket the click numbers of his YouTube channel. He also destroyed evidence and made false statements. He faces a long prison sentence.
Causing plane crash
Jacob’s video went around the world: the engine of his small plane has apparently failed, Jacob opens the door of the plane and jumps with a parachute towards the desert. The plane crashes out of control. Everything captured on multiple cameras. Suspicions quickly arose that the incident had not happened by chance – it seemed too unlikely that all the important moments had been captured purely by chance from the perfect angles. Jacob subsequently achieved the desired attention, but it was a tendentially negative one, as he committed a dangerous interference with air traffic and endangered bystanders with his stunt – after all, it was by no means foreseeable that the uncontrolled crashing aircraft would not collide in the air or on the ground with other companions, dwellings or randomly present living beings.
According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Jacob has since confessed to shutting down the plane’s engine and thus intentionally causing the crash. He did so in order to create a viral video. In addition, he has pleaded guilty to obstructing a federal investigation. He had searched for and destroyed the wreckage of his plane – destroying evidence. Further, he made false statements about the incident.
Long imprisonment threatens
The U.S. Department of Justice further announced that Jacob would soon have to answer to a court because of his actions. For the YouTuber, this could have drastic consequences. He faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of up to 250,000 US dollars. However, the confession he has now made could have a mitigating effect on the sentence.
