Dell introduces video conferencing monitors with pop-up webcams

Dell recently unveiled three new monitors designed to meet the needs of video conferencing. A special highlight of the monitors are the pop-up webcams.

Features for video conferencing

While videoconferencing was rather a marginal phenomenon even in the business operations of larger companies until 2019, it has abruptly moved into the center of society in 2020. Due to the pandemic, video conferencing is now considered the gold standard for any meeting of a professional or private nature. In many cases, however, this requires a retooling of the technical features – after all, not every PC or laptop is equipped with an acceptable camera, a powerful microphone and other necessary components.

Dell is entering exactly this niche with the three monitors now presented: The core of the new devices are the features necessary for a successful video conference. All three monitors come with a pop-up webcam, an integrated sound bar and powerful microphones. The webcam has a resolution of five megapixels, while the soundbar has an output of 2 x 5 watts. As a pop-up webcam, the camera can be retracted into the case, which should serve to protect privacy – taping up integrated cameras is thus a thing of the past. Furthermore, it enables a digital zoom and allows logging in via Windows Hello.

Differences between the displays

The three video conferencing displays differ from each other in size as well as resolution. The C2422HE model measures 24 inches diagonally and offers FHD resolution; the C2722DE model is 27 inches and resolves in QHD, while the C3422WE monitor measures 34 inches and offers WQHD resolution. The former two displays present themselves in a 16:9 format, while the latter offers a 21:9 format. Meanwhile, all three models are equipped with USB-C docking capabilities, KVM switch and picture-in-picture feature.

Pricing and Availability

In the U.S., the three displays will be available starting February 16. Prices are $499 (C2422HE), $679 (C2722DE) and $1,049 (C3422WE).
