Devolo Giga Bridge closes the gap between fiber and router

Germany is continuing to expand its fiber-optic network. But not always when a corresponding connection is laid in the house is it actually used. Often, the connections with an optical network termination (ONT) are located in the basement, far away from the router. Devolo closes this gap with the Giga Bridge.

Gigabit speed directly to the router

The gap between ONT and router is closed with the Devolo Giga Bridge in 3 simple steps. In this process, the first Giga Bridge adapter is connected to the ONT via Ethernet cable and receives the broadband signal. It transmits the broadband signal via an existing coaxial or telephone line. A second Giga Bridge adapter receives the broadband signal and transmits it directly to the router via LAN cable without compromising speed.

To do this, the devolo Giga Bridge uses G.hn technology (point-to-point) to transmit the Internet signal over the coaxial line (TV/SAT). Two- or four-core wiring of the existing telephone line can be used. The only important thing is that the existing cables are unused. The devolo Giga Bridge can be connected without any problems, even by non-experts.

Conveniently, the adapters work invisibly and are secured via 128-bit AES encryption. According to the manufacturer, a net transmission speed of 800 Mbps can still be achieved with a coaxial cable length of 200 meters. Over short distances, even up to 1,000 Mbit/s is possible.

Price and availability

The Devolo Giga Bridge is already available in stores. Two different sets are offered, depending on the desired transmission via telephone or coaxial cable. The sets differ with regard to the enclosed adapters and are at a RRP of 199.90 euros. An optional installation service from Cervis can also be booked from Devolo for 99.90 euros. It includes the arrival and departure of the technician as well as 45 minutes of on-site installation.
