Those who wish to continue using the platform without restrictions will be prompted in the coming weeks to upload a photo of a valid ID card or passport. Complementing this is a biometric face scan, where a specialized AI analyzes facial features to estimate the user’s age and cross-reference it with the ID data. This step is a direct response to growing pressure from international regulatory authorities demanding stricter controls to protect minors on social networks.
While biometric data collection raises privacy concerns for many tech-savvy users, the company emphasizes that data security is a top priority. The information is transmitted in encrypted form to certified partner companies and, according to Discord, will be deleted promptly after the verification process is complete. The goal is to ensure that users actually are the age they claim in their profile. This proof of identity will become an unavoidable requirement, particularly for accessing NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content or joining specific community servers.
