In October 2026, Disney+ will bring two of the year’s most anticipated productions to the platform: the Marvel finale *VisionQuest* and the *Oasis* documentary *Don’t Look Back in Anger *. In addition, new seasons of *The Kardashians* and *American Dad* will premiere. However, the month is overshadowed by the escalating patent dispute with InterDigital, which has already cost Disney+ HDR, Dolby Vision, and AirPlay.

The most important new releases at a glance

  • *VisionQuest* (starting October 14) – Marvel series starring Paul Bettany, concluding the Wanda/Agatha trilogy
  • Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger (starting October 9) – A documentary about the band’s reunion tour
  • The Kardashians, Season 8 (starting October 8)
  • Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself (starting October 7) – new comedy special
  • American Dad, Season 21 (starting October 21)
  • Live broadcasts of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (starting October 1)

VisionQuest Concludes the Wanda Trilogy

With VisionQuest, Marvel wraps up the story that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along on October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision, who, following the events of WandaVision, is trying to build a new, human life for himself—inspired by Tom King’s acclaimed comic book series “The Vision.” Joining him are T’Nia Miller as Jocasta and James Spader, who reprises his role as Ultron. Showrunner Terry Matalas, known for his blend of horror, mystery, and sci-fi, continues the cross-genre style of the preceding series.

Oasis Documentary, the Kardashians, and Other Highlights

Just in time for the conclusion of the British band’s highly anticipated reunion tour, Disney+ will release the documentary *Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger* on October 9. It follows Liam and Noel Gallagher on their Live ’25 tour and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the two brothers’ reconciliation. Also premiering in October are the eighth season of *The Kardashians* (October 8), the 21st season of *American Dad* (October 21), and the new comedy special *Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself* (October 7). Sports fans will be in for a treat starting October 1 with live broadcasts of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Disney+ in Patent Dispute: Streaming Becomes More Expensive with Fewer Features

While the content library is growing, Disney+’s technical capabilities are shrinking at the same time. The reason is a patent dispute with InterDigital, which now involves approximately 100 million euros in damages for a single HDR patent alone—affecting Germany and 19 other European countries. Instead of paying the licensing fees, Disney has gradually disabled features: First, Dolby Vision disappeared, then 4K and HDR10 were temporarily disabled as well, as basic-tutorials.de reported back in the summer. Most recently, Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast were affected and removed from the app as part of another InterDigital lawsuit.

For subscribers, this means that premium features they’re actually paying for keep disappearing—while Disney simultaneously keeps raising prices. Just last September, the ad-free subscription in the U.S. became 13 percent more expensive, and industry observers expect similar price hikes in Europe as well.

Conclusion

In terms of content, Disney+ has two real crowd-pleasers on its lineup for October 2026—*VisionQuest* and the *Oasis* documentary—which should appeal even to those who are hesitant about subscribing. However, those who value full 4K and HDR support as well as AirPlay will have to remain patient in light of the unresolved patent dispute with InterDigital—and will likely end up paying even more for it.
