DJI has unveiled the Mic Mini 2S, the company’s first mini wireless microphone with a built-in recording function. This compact wireless microphone records audio directly in the transmitter—regardless of its connection to a camera or smartphone—and can store up to 28 hours of audio in 32-bit float quality. The DJI Mic Mini 2S is now available starting at 69 euros.
For content creators who are already using the standard DJI Mic Mini 2, this is likely to be the key difference: While its predecessor relies on a continuous wireless connection, the Mic Mini 2S also saves the recording locally on the transmitter. If the wireless signal is briefly lost during an interview on the street or in a location with a lot of concrete and steel, the audio track will still be fully intact.
What’s new with the DJI Mic Mini 2S?
The centerpiece of the update is the internal 32-bit float recording. Each transmitter comes with approximately 14.5 GB of storage and, in standard mode, records up to 28 hours of audio at 24-bit resolution. The 32-bit floating-point format captures a significantly wider dynamic range than traditional 16- or 24-bit recordings. Even with widely fluctuating volume levels—such as when a quiet whisper is suddenly followed by a loud exclamation—it’s still possible to salvage some audio during post-production, even if the level wasn’t set perfectly during filming.
Up to four transmitters can be paired with a single receiver at the same time, covering roundtable formats, podcasts, interviews, and small multi-person productions without the need for additional hardware. DJI also ensures backward compatibility: Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters, as well as DJI Mic series receivers for mobile devices, continue to work with the new system, so if you already own accessories, you can simply add to them instead of buying a completely new setup.
Two-Stage AI Noise Cancellation
DJI takes a two-stage approach to noise cancellation. The “Basic” level filters out typical indoor noises such as fans, air conditioners, or reverberation, while the “Strong” level is designed for loud outdoor environments and suppresses ambient noise more effectively to ensure voices remain clear. This is complemented by automatic clipping control, which attenuates the signal during sudden volume spikes, as well as volume leveling, which keeps the output level constant during interviews or livestreams.
For the sound character itself, there are three profiles to choose from: “Regular” for a balanced, natural sound, “Bright” for more clarity and presence, and “Rich” for a fuller, warmer sound. This allows most of the audio optimization to be done during filming, which saves time in post-production—especially for fast-paced news or social media formats.

Compact design with customization options
Little has changed in terms of form factor: The transmitter still weighs only about 12 grams and can be attached via a clip or magnet. The magnetic front cover is removable, and the eight colored variants from the Mic Mini 2 series are still compatible. New this time is a collaboration with illustrator Victo Ngai on a limited-edition “Time Series” front cover that features motifs representing different stages of life. This has no impact on functionality, but it shows just how much DJI is now marketing the microphone as a fashion accessory for creators.
Seamless integration with DJI cameras
Those already using the DJI ecosystem will benefit from the OsmoAudio direct connection: The transmitters pair directly with the Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo Pocket 4, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano, and Osmo Action 6 without a separate receiver, delivering 48 kHz/24-bit audio directly to the camera. This saves you from having to carry an extra device and significantly simplifies setup for impromptu shoots. This principle is also familiar from other areas of streaming setups: When choosing the right webcam, the solution with less additional hardware is often the more stable one in the end.

Verdict: Is it worth the upgrade?
In a direct comparison to the DJI Mic Mini 2, the internal recording feature is by far the most important new addition. Anyone who has previously had to carry an additional backup recorder out of concern for wireless dropouts can now do without it. For most people, the decision between the Mic Mini 2 and the Mic Mini 2S will likely come down solely to whether internal recording is needed as a safety net.
For anyone who’s upgrading their audio setup anyway, it’s also worth taking a look at the appropriate software settings: For example, if you’re integrating the microphone into OBS Studio for streams, you can combine the Mic Mini 2S’s hardware-based AI noise cancellation with the software filters to achieve even cleaner results. The Mic Mini 2S also fits well as a complement to a new camera setup like the recently introduced OBSBOT Meet Flip, especially when you want both audio and video to come from a single source.
That leaves the question of price: For a safety net that can save an entire recording in a pinch, the premium over the regular Mic Mini 2 is reasonable. Anyone who doesn’t yet own a wireless microphone should therefore go straight for the Mic Mini 2S. Owners of the Mic Mini 2, on the other hand, need to honestly consider how often they’ve actually had to deal with dropouts in practice, because the internal recording feature alone doesn’t make this a mandatory upgrade.
