DJI Mini 2 SE presented: What’s inside the new entry-level drone

The DJI Mini 2 SE is a new, compact entry-level drone that is set to launch at the end of March for less than 400 euros. It is based on the Mini 2, but comes with some deletions.

DJI Mini 2 SE in detail

Briefly, the official website of the new drone DJI Mini 2 SE was online before the manufacturer took it offline again. Thanks to Drone-Zone, however, we now know most of the details about the new entry-level drone that expands the Mini segment.

In December 2022, the manufacturer had introduced the DJI Mini 3, a more affordable model of the Mini 3 Pro. However, the Mini 2 SE is technically based more on the two-model. However, it has to do without the LEDs on the front, for example, while videos can be recorded in a maximum of 2.7K resolution. In contrast to the non-SE variant, which can also handle 4K videos.

The rest of the camera equipment, on the other hand, is the same. On offer is a 1/2.3-inch sensor that shoots at 12 megapixels, while the camera is stabilized via a 3-axis gimbal. Videos can be recorded at up to 40 Mbps in the H.264 codec, while photos can also be shot in RAW format.

OcSync 2.0 on board

Perhaps the most important new feature of the DJI Mini 2 SE to the 1 SE is the switch to OcuSync 2.0, which increases the range up to six kilometers while ensuring a more stable connection.

Especially with the controller in the form of the familiar RC-N1, which can be used alongside a tablet or smartphone, stability is said to have been significantly improved compared to the first version of the drone.

It is not known what the weight of the DJI Mini 2 SE will be. However, it is also supposed to weigh less than 250 grams and be suitable for backpacks with compact dimensions. It will use the familiar 2,250 mAh batteries from the Mini 2, which allow for a flight time of up to 31 minutes. Thanks to a return-to-home function, the drone will automatically return home when battery power dwindles.

Price and Availability

The DJI Mini 2 SE is scheduled to be available in stores on March 22, 2023. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is 389 euros for the standard combo, which includes the drone and the main accessories such as the battery and controller. A Fly More combo with two extra batteries, spare propellers, triple charging station and bag is to be offered for 529 euros.
