DJI OM 5: New smartphone gimbal comes with 3-axis stabilization and ActiveTrack 4.0

Manufacturer DJI has introduced the new Osmo Mobile 5 smartphone gimbal, which comes up with exciting features. Thanks to 3-axis stabilization and ActiveTrack 4.0, an even clearer video quality is supposed to be achieved. However, the battery is significantly smaller compared to the DJI OM 4.

What’s inside the DJI OM5

Compared to its direct predecessor, the new smartphone gimbal DJI OM 5 comes up with numerous improvements. The weight has dropped to 290 grams, brought the OM4 but still just under 400g on the scale. Thanks to its folding mechanism, the gimbal is ideally suited for mobile use. It can be extended by up to 215 mm via the integrated extension rod.

Technically, the DJI OM 5 once again relies on 3-axis stabilization, which relies on particularly powerful motors to hold even larger and heavier smartphones securely. For this, the manufacturer installs a newly designed phone clamp that can also be used with smartphone cases. You can find a huge list of compatible smartphones on DJI’s website.

New, on the other hand, is the ActiveTrack 4.0 featgure, which offers more advanced recognition capabilities, increased responsiveness, and new automatic face tracking for selfie mode, among other features. In addition, the DJI OM5 offers intelligent shooting modes such as Panorama and CloneMe Panorama, as well as various video modes.

However, the more compact size results in a lower battery life compared to the OM4. Thus, the new edition only lasts a maximum of 6.4 hours before the smartphone gimbal has to be charged. The charging process takes about one and a half hours. In comparison, the DJI OM4 came up with a battery life of just under 15 hours, which is more than twice as long.

Price and Availability

DJI will offer the Osmo Mobile 5 (OM5) smartphone gimbal starting September 15. Currently, however, the tool is not yet listed on Amazon. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 159.00 euros. The DJI OM4 is currently on sale for 129.00 euros.
