With the new DJI Osmo Pocket 4P, DJI is sending a clear signal in the direction of professional mobile film production. The presentation at the Cannes Film Festival shows that the compact gimbal camera is no longer just an accessory for vlogs and social media, but is increasingly being positioned as a serious tool for filmmakers. Compared to the Osmo Pocket 4 (our test), there is improved image quality, new portrait functions and an expanded creative ecosystem to further dissolve the boundaries between mobile camera and professional film technology.

  • DJI presents the new Osmo Pocket 4P for the first time in Cannes
  • New imaging system with extended dynamic range for cinematic shots
  • Improved portrait and zoom functions for creative video shots
  • Integration into DJI’s professional film and power ecosystem

DJI Osmo Pocket 4P aims to make professional filmmaking more mobile

With the Osmo Pocket 4P, DJI is building on its many years of experience in the field of stabilization and mobile camera technology. The company launched its first gimbal camera back in 2015 and later established itself in the field of mobile content production with the compact Osmo Pocket series. The new generation now takes a much more ambitious approach.

The focus is on a new imaging system which, according to DJI, enables a significantly improved dynamic range. As a result, videos should deliver more details and more natural contrasts even under difficult lighting conditions. This should be a decisive advantage, especially for night shots, indoors or in strongly changing light conditions. The technology is complemented by DJI’s well-known stabilization, which remains one of the most important features of the series.

The advanced portrait functions are also a clear focus of the new camera. Natural-looking skin tones and a cinematic depth effect are intended to make interviews, documentaries and vlogs look much more high-quality. At the same time, DJI has improved the zoom functions to capture distant subjects in greater detail. The combination of compact design and professional recording functions could appeal to independent filmmakers and mobile creators in particular.

The presentation in Cannes does not appear to have been chosen at random. DJI is deliberately positioning the Osmo Pocket 4P closer to professional film productions, underlining the Pocket series’ transition from a classic creator gadget to a versatile production tool.

DJI continues to expand the creative ecosystem around the Osmo Pocket 4P

Alongside the new camera, DJI also presented the mobile power solutions DJI Power 1000 Mini and DJI Power 2000 in Cannes. Both products are designed to enable longer and more flexible production workflows, especially for mobile shoots or quick outdoor assignments.

The strategy behind this is clear: DJI not only wants to sell individual devices, but also establish a complete ecosystem for modern film and content production. This now includes cinema drones, professional gimbals, cinema cameras, mobile camera systems and portable power supply solutions.

This integrated approach could be particularly interesting for smaller productions or solo creators. Instead of having to combine several manufacturers, different components within the DJI ecosystem can be used directly with each other. This simplifies workflows and reduces the technical effort involved in productions on the move.

It is also striking that DJI is specifically promoting the Osmo Pocket 4P as a tool for cinematic storytelling. This is the company’s response to the ongoing trend towards high-quality mobile filming and professional vlogs. The increasing importance of compact cameras in the creative sector shows that many productions today are being realized more flexibly, faster and much more mobile than just a few years ago.

Conclusion

With the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P, DJI is significantly expanding its Pocket series in the direction of professional film production. Improved image quality, extended portrait functions and close integration with the DJI ecosystem make the compact gimbal camera particularly interesting for mobile creatives and filmmakers. DJI has not yet announced prices and specific configurations. Sales will start via the official DJI store and authorized dealers.
