With the DJI RS 5, DJI is launching a newly developed, particularly lightweight gimbal for commercial use. The new model in the Ronin series combines intelligent tracking functions, powerful stabilization and long battery life in a compact system. Developed for professional filmmakers and mobile video productions, the RS 5 focuses on high flexibility, simple operation and close integration with the DJI ecosystem. The result is a tool that is designed for both solo productions and more complex setups.
- Compact lightweight gimbal with high load capacity
- Intelligent subject tracking with touchscreen control
- Long battery life and fast charging times
- Deep integration into the DJI ecosystem
DJI RS 5: Precise tracking and stable camera guidance
The DJI RS 5 was developed specifically for dynamic shooting situations and professional workflows. At its heart is the new RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking module, which enables precise subject tracking directly via the gimbal’s touchscreen. Subjects can be selected and tracked in real time without external control devices or additional adapters. In addition to people, the system also recognizes objects such as vehicles or objects and keeps the focus stable even in complex environments. If the subject briefly loses the frame, it is automatically recaptured, making the workflow much more efficient. The magnetic attachment of the module allows quick and tool-free installation.

The fifth-generation stabilization algorithm ensures smooth and steady shots. By increasing the motor torque by 50 percent, the camera remains stable even during fast movements, changes of direction or running shots. The improved performance is particularly evident in vertical video formats. Despite the powerful technology, the RS 5 remains extremely mobile: with a total weight of just 1.46 kg including battery grip and quick-release plates, it is one of the lightest professional gimbals in its class. At the same time, it supports a payload of up to 3 kg and is therefore compatible with many mirrorless cameras and lens combinations. You can switch between landscape and portrait format without additional accessories, which makes it much easier to use in different production environments.
Creative control, energy efficiency and system versatility
In addition to stability and tracking, the DJI RS 5 focuses on creative freedom and ergonomic operation. The new electronic briefcase handle opens up additional camera perspectives, such as ground-level or overhead shots, and enables comfortable one-handed control. The newly integrated Z-axis display supports smooth movement and helps to actively reduce camera shake. This results in smooth camera movements, even with longer shoots and complex motion sequences.
Another focus is on the power supply. The RS 5 can be fully charged in around one hour and achieves a runtime of up to 14 hours with the standard battery. With the optional BG70 high-performance battery, the operating time even increases to up to 30 hours, enabling longer productions without interruptions. Wireless camera control via Bluetooth has been expanded and now also supports cameras from Panasonic and Fujifilm, in addition to the established systems from Sony, Canon and Nikon.
System integration also plays a central role. The RS 5 is fully integrated into the DJI ecosystem and compatible with solutions such as DJI Focus Pro motors and DJI SDR Transmission. This enables functions such as wireless video transmission, remote control of camera and gimbal as well as team collaboration. Different grip systems and accessory solutions can be connected via the RSA Communication Port, while the open RS SDK allows individual software adaptations by third-party providers. The result is a flexible system that can be adapted to a wide range of production requirements.
Conclusion
The DJI RS 5 combines low weight, intelligent tracking technology, strong stabilization and long battery life in a professional overall concept. The combination of mobility, system integration and creative flexibility makes it a versatile tool for commercial film and video productions.
The DJI RS 5 is now available in two versions: The standalone version costs 569 euros (RRP), while the combo version with tracking module, electronic briefcase handle and carrying case is priced at 719 euros (RRP).
