E-cars from Ora and Wey coming to Germany

The Great Wall Motors (GWM) car group is one of the largest suppliers in China. It has now been announced that it is entering into a partnership with Emil Frey, a European car dealer group based in Switzerland, to bring the Ora and Wey brands to Europe as well.

Emil Frey brings Ora and Wey to Europe

As reported by the Automobilwoche website, Chinese car company Great Wall has entered into a strategic partnership with Europe’s largest car dealer group, Emil Frey. The aim is to bring the popular Ora and Wey brands to Europe, whose market launch has so far failed due to a non-existent dealer network.

According to the report, Emil Frey will take care of all aspects of both car brands in Europe, with sales of the vehicles even set to start in this country in the fourth quarter of 2022. Both manufacturers had already presented their models to the European public during the IAA 2021.

Wey Coffee 01 and Ora Cat

Ora is launching in this country with the Ora Funky Cat compact electric car, the reinterpretation of the compact car the manufacturer showed in Frankfurt last year. It is already presented in detail on the UK website of the carmaker.

The highlight of the 4,235 x 1,825 x 1,603 mm electric car is the 171 hp front-mounted engine, which accelerates the little runabout from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds with 250 Nm of torque. At least in the First Edition. The top speed is 160 km/h. The battery is said to have a range of around 310 kilometers and can be charged from 15 to 80 percent in 42 minutes.

The UK site lists the Ora Cat with a price of the equivalent of around 38,000 euros, but prices for Germany are not currently mentioned. At least in the UK, the Ora Funky Cat First Edition is expected to launch as early as fall 2022.

Wey Coffee 01 comes as a hybrid SUV

Also coming from Wey is the Coffee 01, a plug-in hybrid in the form of an SUV that already shows up on the automaker’s German-language website. It is said to feature, for example, up to eight different driving modes for city, snow or sand and offer a high level of comfort.

Visually, the Coffee 01 has some parallels to the Togg E-SUV from Turkey, which has just started test production and is possibly scheduled to launch as early as 2023.

With dimensions of 4,870 x 1,960 x 1,690 mm and a wheelbase of 2,910 mm, the Wey Coffee 01 is naturally much more bulky and, with a 350-kW powertrain including 847 Nm of torque, naturally has much more steam under the hood. In electric mode, the SUV is said to be able to realize a range of up to 150 kilometers.

However, there are no further details or prices for the European market so far. However, we will probably get them soon, since it is not too long until the targeted market launch in the fourth quarter of 2022.
