Ecovacs Goat G1: robotic mower with cameras and GPS manages without perimeter wire

With the Ecovacs Goat G1, the manufacturer has officially presented an exciting robotic mower. Thanks to cameras and GPS navigation, the little helper is able to reliably mow the lawn without having to lay a perimeter wire.

Ecovac’s Goat G1 in detail

The Ecovacs Goat G1 robotic mower adapts many technologies from the manufacturer’s robotic vacuum cleaners, such as the Deebot T10 Plus (our review) or the top-of-the-line Deebot X1 OMNI (our review). With its first own robotic mower, the company wants to challenge the established names in the field and has some exciting features in tow.

Thanks to its “Robotic Vision,” the Goat G1 is able to navigate the garden reliably, with centimeter accuracy and autonomously. With a 360-degree camera on top, the robot recognizes its surroundings and reliably moves through the garden while detecting and avoiding objects and obstacles. This is where the AIVI-3D technology of the company’s own vacuum robots comes into play.

A second, 150-degree fish-eye camera with up to 100 meters of visibility further enhances navigation, scanning the environment at 25 frames per second in real time. Thanks to UWB and GPS, the Ecovacs Goat G1 reliably moves through your own backyard without you having to lay any perimeter wire.

The front camera can also be viewed via the companion app, mutating the G1 into a self-driving outdoor surveillance camera.

Reliable mowing

Boundaries simply need to be defined first by setting up a pole and within the Ecovacs app, and the Ecovacs Goat G1 needs to be taught. According to the manufacturer, this one-time, initial process should be completed in about 20 minutes.

After that, the Goat G1 should start its work systematically and clearly structured. The mowing system works in paths, while the robot can adapt to different conditions and, for example, to sloping terrain.

The G1 is said to be able to tackle a 600-square-meter garden in just one day, trimming the grass to a height of between 3 and 6 inches. The robotic mower is also certified to IPX6, which means that even rain cannot harm it.

Price and availability

Details on battery life, however, the manufacturer has not yet named. Also unknown are the prices for the Ecovacs Goat G1, which is expected to be launched in Europe in March 2023. More details can be found on the manufacturer’s product website.
