Acer makes every human resources department’s dream come true: With the eKinekt BD 3 bike desk, employees can now work and keep fit at the same time.
Spend work energy and regenerate
From a profit-oriented perspective, the new device fulfills the boldest wishes in several respects at once. First of all, with it it is possible to let the regeneration run simultaneously with the working time: Those who work on the bike no longer have to exercise after work to stay fit. Consequently, this means that employees may be able to work longer – after all, no extra time is needed for sports and fitness is not affected. There is also another aspect that is likely to be highly interesting from the above perspective: Pedaling generates electricity that is used to power the equipment used for work. Thus, the physical activity performed in parallel with work reduces energy costs in the company or home office. For this purpose, the kinetic energy is routed to the devices in use via two USB Type-A ports or one USB Type-C port. At 60 revolutions per minute, up to 75 watts of power is generated every hour.
Apps for progress monitoring
The bicycle ergometer has an integrated display that shows information about one’s physical activity. In addition, these are delivered to a smartphone app. This is said to make it easier to optimize one’s own physical exertion. The resistance of the bike, the table height and the seat height can be adjusted to your own preferences.
The device is largely made of PCR plastic. It is due to be launched on the market in June. The price is set at 1,000 euros. The ergometer workstation is thus anything but affordable, but cheaper than most notebooks that Acer recently presented at CES.
