ELO Sentinel XR is the name of the gaming headset that ELO Gaming will showcase for the first time—fully assembled and ready for gaming—at Gamescom in Cologne from August 26 to 30, 2026. Two years after the initial announcement, visitors to Hall 10.1, Booth F-060, will be able to experience for themselves what it’s like to have a 180-inch image right before their eyes, before the glasses are shipped to the first customers in October 2026.

  • ELO will showcase the finished Sentinel XR gaming headset live for the first time at Gamescom 2026 (August 26–30, Hall 10.1, Booth F-060)
  • Two Sony OLED displays, Full HD resolution per eye, 120 Hz, and 1 ms response time
  • Wired USB-C connection instead of a closed ecosystem; compatible with smartphones, PCs, and handheld devices
  • Price: 499 euros; shipping to customers beginning in October 2026

From Kickstarter to the finished Sentinel XR

The Sentinel XR isn’t a product that ELO brought to Gamescom out of thin air. Initial details about the XR headset were already circulating in mid-2025, including in a Forbes report about the device, which was still under development at the time. This was followed by a Kickstarter campaign, an appearance at TwitchCon Rotterdam 2026, and now, shortly before the launch, the first opportunity for visitors to try on the finished device themselves.

“The fact that the Sentinel is finally ready and gamers can try it out for themselves is a huge milestone for ELO,” says CEO Adam Hepburn. His team deliberately chose not to build just another pair of display glasses for the mass market, but rather one focused on performance, responsiveness, and immersion in gaming—one that users can take with them anywhere.

Technical Specifications of the ELO Sentinel XR

The display consists of two Sony OLED panels positioned in front of the eyes, each with Full HD resolution. The field of view is 52 degrees, and according to ELO, the electrochromic lenses block out up to 99.7 percent of ambient light. ELO’s product page lists a few additional specifications not mentioned in the press release itself, such as brightness and contrast ratio:

Specification Value
Displays 2x Sony OLED
Resolution 1920 × 1080 pixels per eye (Full HD)
Refresh rate 120 Hz (2D) / 90 Hz (3D)
Response time 1 ms
Field of view 52 degrees
Brightness 5,000 nits
Contrast ratio 100,000:1
Light Blocking (Electrochromic) up to 99.7%
Weight 80 grams
Diopter correction 0 to -5.0
IPD range 52–72 mm, adjustable via software
Connection USB-C (wired)

Weighing 80 grams, ELO says the glasses should feel like a normal pair of glasses, not a bulky headset. Those who are nearsighted also don’t need to pack contact lenses: The built-in prescription covers a range from 0 to -5.0 diopters.

USB-C Instead of a Closed Ecosystem

The most striking difference from traditional VR headsets isn’t in the display, but in the connection. The Sentinel XR isn’t a standalone system with its own operating system; instead, it connects via a USB-C cable to devices that most gamers already own: smartphones, handhelds, portable TV replacements, or your home PC.

This means the headset can be used for mobile and cloud gaming, as well as for remote play or as a portable monitor for a handheld device, without being tied to a fixed screen.

Gamescom 2026: Where You Can Try Out the Sentinel XR

Gamescom 2026 runs from August 26 to 30 at the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds. ELO will be showcasing the Sentinel XR throughout the entire event in Hall 10.1 at Booth F-060, where visitors can try out movies and other video content for themselves using the headset. Media representatives and content creators can also speak directly with the ELO team.

Price and Launch Date

The ELO Sentinel XR gaming headset is expected to cost 499 euros or 599 U.S. dollars. Shipments to customers will begin in October 2026; currently, visitors to ELO’s product page can only sign up for a notification. Anyone who wants to be among the first to receive the headset in October should secure a spot on the waitlist in a timely manner.

Conclusion

With the Sentinel XR, ELO is taking a gaming headset from a Kickstarter idea to mass production without relying on a closed ecosystem. Whether the 180-inch display feels just as good in everyday use as it does in theory will only become clear after the first hands-on reports from Gamescom 2026. If you want to check it out for yourself, you’ll find ELO in Hall 10.1 at Booth F-060 throughout the entire trade show.
