On February 12, Eutelsat Konnect announced that four of the five planned spot beams in Germany has already been activated. The satellite Internet will thus soon be available everywhere. .
Transmission of 100 MBit/s via satellite Internet
With the switching of spot beams, high-speed satellite Internet is quickly becoming widespread and is a real option, especially for underserved regions. Eutelsat’s planned expansion is now nearing completion. The last and thus fifth spot beam is to be switched next month. According to information from the operator, satellite Internet is measured using Skylogic’s speed test for satellite Internet, not by the German Federal Network Agency as is usually the case. On February 11, 2021, a data rate for Eutelsat Konnect satellite Internet of 120 Mbps could be measured. For the capacity, the company has signed contracts with TIM in Italy and Orange in France.
For the time being, the company wants to concentrate on European areas for the expansion of satellite Internet. In particular, Eutelsat Konnect is focusing on countries with high demand, including countries such as Italy, Germany, France and the UK. Overall, the total capacity of 75 GBit/s is to be distributed across 65 of the company’s spot beams. Once demand in Europe has been served to that extent, the company plans to deploy the remaining capacity in Africa.
Eurosat profits rise unexpectedly
Shares in Eutelsat surged nearly 7 percent Friday, helping the company beat earnings expectations for the first half of the year. This can be attributed to the new contracts and the launch of the Konnect satellite.
