Facebook introduces Portal Go and Portal+

With the Portal Go and Portal+ models, Facebook is expanding its series of smart displays. For the first time, the featured products include a battery-powered one that is suitable for mobile use.

Portal Go

The new Portal Go device has a ten-inch display and can run on battery power, allowing for mobile use. A twelve megapixel wide-angle camera is used in this device, which automatically focuses on the person speaking. This is especially useful when the freedom of movement enabled by the device is actually used during a video call. The device is expected to cost $199 and begin shipping on October 19.

Portal+

The Portal+ device that has been unveiled features a fourteen-inch display, but is overall more compact than the other new introduction. In addition, it differs from the Portal Go in that it is not suitable for mobile use and has a swiveling display.

Business service unveiled

Mark Zuckerberg, during the livestream in which the new devices were presented, also unveiled a new business feature that will be available to small and medium-sized businesses in the future. Through this feature, companies will be able to create business accounts for their employees, which will allow them to use certain features of the social network. This is particularly relevant in the context of the portal devices, as these are not only aimed at a private target group, but also explicitly at companies that want to achieve greater digital networking. So far, the business function can only be used in the USA as part of a beta phase.
