Fairphone 6: Exciting leaks about the next generation of sustainable smartphones

A new leak reveals almost all the details of the Fairphone 6 – and provides an exciting preview of a smartphone that aims to combine sustainability, modern technology and attractive pricing. With a modular design, an LTPO display and the latest mid-range hardware, the successor to the Fairphone 5 is becoming a serious option – and not just for the environmentally conscious.

  • LTPO P-OLED display with 120 Hz and dynamic refresh rate
  • Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, 8 GB RAM and expandable memory
  • Improved main camera with larger aperture
  • More compact, lighter and still modular with removable battery

A more modern approach to a sustainable smartphone

The Fairphone 6 is based on the same basic principle as its predecessors: sustainability through durability and easy repairability. But in the sixth generation, the technical features are also completely contemporary for the first time. A key highlight is the new LTPO P-OLED display with a 6.31-inch diagonal, which now works with dynamic refresh rates of 1 to 120 Hz. This feature, which was previously reserved for flagships, ensures both a smooth display and energy savings.

The display is protected with Gorilla Glass 7i and offers a resolution of 2,484 x 1,116 pixels at 432 ppi. The display edges have been visibly reduced, giving the Fairphone 6 a more modern appearance. The casing has also been redesigned: At 156.5 x 73.3 x 9.6 mm, it is more compact than its predecessor, while also being noticeably lighter at 195 grams.

Performance boost thanks to Snapdragon and current standards

Under the hood, Fairphone switches from the outdated IoT processor to a significantly more powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. This mid-range SoC from 2023 not only features an up-to-date 5G modem, but also Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 and a total of eight processing cores with up to 2.5 GHz. Paired with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory – expandable via microSD – the Fairphone 6 should be much faster in everyday use.

The battery has also been slightly increased: 4,415 mAh instead of the previous 4,200 mAh ensures a longer battery life, while charging is still possible via USB-C with up to 33 watts. The battery remains removable as usual – a rare feature in the smartphone market. A fingerprint sensor, presumably located on the side, is available for secure unlocking.

Camera: light and shade in terms of features

The camera presents a mixed picture. The main camera on the back now uses a 50-megapixel sensor with a fast f/1.56 aperture – a clear upgrade over its predecessor that promises better images in difficult lighting conditions. The ultra-wide-angle camera, on the other hand, has been reduced to 13 megapixels, but could still deliver good results if the sensor and software are tuned accordingly.

The selfie camera has also been adjusted: 32 megapixels with f/2.0 aperture sound solid, even if on paper they appear to be a step backwards compared to the 50 MP of the Fairphone 5. Whether these changes prove to be an upgrade or downgrade in everyday use remains to be seen in initial tests.

Conclusion: More than just a niche product?

With the Fairphone 6, the manufacturer is positioning itself for the first time as a technically competitive player in the hotly contested mid-range market. The modern LTPO display, the latest Snapdragon platform, expandable memory and a removable battery are strong arguments – and at a price that is around 550 euros below its predecessor. The device will be officially available from June 25, 2025 – in the colors Horizon Black, Cloud White and Forrest Green. So if you value sustainability, you no longer have to compromise on technology.
