Fiido X (2022): New e-folding bike comes with strong improvements

After the Fiido D4S, which we were able to test ourselves in July 2021, and the crowdfunded Fiido X, which was a complete success, the Chinese manufacturer is launching an improved version of its e-folding bike. The Fiido X (2022), sometimes referred to as the Fiido X V2, comes with numerous improvements.

Fiido: Improvements due to safety risk

Even though the Fiido X via crowdfunding had raised over one million euros, not everything is going smoothly with the e-folding bike. Deliveries to European backers are just getting underway, but reports of frame breakages are now piling up.

Even the manufacturer warns in an email against its use because of glaring safety deficiencies:

“Based on the fact that this defect poses a serious security risk, we now urge all users to stop using the X, as there is a risk,” the manufacturer writes to all backers.

Now an improved and of course more secure version follows, which is sometimes called Fiido X (2022) and sometimes Fiido X V2. The design remains largely faithful to that of the first edition, but on the technical features, in addition to the more stable and unbreakable frame, has done a lot.

This is new in the Fiido X (2022)

For example, the new Fiido X (2022) relies on a 7-speed gearshift from Shimano. The display on the handlebars has also been improved in detail and is now brighter and thus better readable even in sunlight.

In addition, the display of the speed is now optionally in kilometers or miles per hour, while finally also an odometer has been integrated. The saddle and grips have also been optimized to offer greater riding comfort.

The patented battery has a range of 130 km per charge. It can be easily removed for charging. At the same time, the e-folding bike weighs just 19.8 kg. The EU version of the e-bike is equipped with a 250-watt motor that allows a maximum pedal assistance of up to 25 km/h.

Fiido X (2022) price and availability

The new Fiido X (2022) is now available for pre-order directly from the manufacturer. It is priced at 1,869.79 Euros, currently there is also a 200 US dollar discount for pre-orderers. The prices have risen considerably, since the first version of the X was priced at around 930 Euros. It is not yet clear when the delivery will take place.
