Fiido X: E-bike in foldable design available as of July 13

The Fiido D11 was already considered a popular representative among the comparatively inexpensive e-bikes. Its latest generation, the Fiido X, also combines a practical folding design with comfortable support from an electric motor. The company wants to set itself apart from the competition not only with the help of a lot of innovations, but also with a really competitive price. Let’s take a closer look at what the portable e-bike has to offer.

Purchase via Indiegogo possible

The Fiido X is scheduled to go on sale in mid-July. For the time being, the exclusive distribution right seems to lie with the Indiegogo platform. Fiido itself wants to launch the e-bike in two different versions. In addition to the conventional version, a lite version is also to be launched. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the normal or lite version. Both e-bikes are supposed to be much better than the Fiido D11. The Chinese manufacturer has set itself a real challenge here. After all, a foldable design in an e-bike is anything but simple.

In view of this fact, it is hardly surprising that other manufacturers of e-bikes sometimes call up hefty prices. Here, 3,000 euros and more are not a rarity, but rather standard. The prices at which the Chinese company Fiido launches its e-bikes seem all the crazier. We are not just talking about a few euros less, but a fraction of the price. With the Fiido D11, you could not deny the low-budget character at some corners and ends. Now the company wants to have eliminated most of the weak points.

Improvement of the Fiido D11

Among other things, the special torque sensor that Fiido wants installed in its new folding e-bike sounds exciting. Such a revision was in view of the partly bumpy engine behavior in the predecessor but also long overdue. To prevent rough rides from spoiling the fun in the future, the sensor is supposed to ensure that the engine’s power is specifically adapted to the pedal force delivered by the rider. In general, the build quality is also to improve. For example, Fiido promises that weld seams will also be set more carefully. Fiido relies on a high-quality magnesium alloy for the frame. This should not only be resistant, but also ensure a low overall weight. The Fiido X is said to weigh 17.5 kg in its standard version and only 16.9 kg in its Lite version. The design is also appealing. Finally, the electrically assisted folding bike looks like something out of a science fiction movie.

Lite version with slight cutbacks

Between the normal and the Lite version of the Fiido X there are some differences. This already starts with such elementary things as the brakes and the battery. While the battery located in the seatpost in the standard version should create 130 km range, it is “only” enough for 60 km in the Lite version. We find the factory-installed combination lock extremely innovative. This is to protect the owner from an annoying theft of the seatpost including battery. Both versions are supposed to offer this feature.

The revision of the folding mechanism of the previous model also sounds great. There were a few things to complain about with the D11. The positive overall picture is rounded off with the hydraulic disc brakes. However, you have to do without them on the Lite model. Fiido only uses cables here. The number of gears is identical with seven in both models. Of course, Fiido also has to adhere to Germany’s legal regulations. Accordingly, more than 25 km/h are not in it.

Prices and availability

A sale of the Fiido X (Lite) is to take place via Indiegogo. On the crowdfunding platform, it should be possible to strike from July 13. While the Fiido X costs the equivalent of just under 930 Euros, you can already get the Lite for 760 Euros.
