Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to the successful Nintendo Switch console. The first details about the design and new functions were presented in a recently published video.
- Larger display with thinner edges
- Magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers
- Second USB-C port on the top
- New, adjustable kickstand
Design and new features
The Nintendo Switch 2 retains the hybrid concept of its predecessor, but offers some notable improvements. The display is larger and has thinner edges, which makes for a more immersive gaming experience. The Joy-Con controllers have also grown and are now magnetically attached to the console, making them easier to handle and minimizing potential problems with damaged rails.
A second USB-C port has also been integrated at the top, and the kickstand allows the angle of the display to be individually adjusted.
Compatibility and games
One highlight of the announcement is the backwards compatibility of the Switch 2. Players can use both physical and digital games from the first Switch generation on the new console. A new Mario Kart game was also presented in the announcement video, demonstrating the Switch 2’s enhanced graphical capabilities.
