Acer’s new firmware update aims to boost the performance of the manufacturer’s current gaming notebooks.
Loss performance is raised
Owners of the current Helios 300, Nitro 5 and Triton 300 (SE) series gaming notebooks can rejoice. The manufacturer Acer has released a firmware update for them, which is unprecedented in such an extent. The new firmware is supposed to increase the GPU’s power dissipation. Depending on the model, an increase of 5 to 30 watts is possible. Thereby, some models will be updated before the market launch and the others are to be adjusted by means of the firmware update.
Improved graphics performance on a large scale
Such an intervention in the power dissipation of the GPU in gaming notebooks, on such a scale is rather rare. Acer’s Senior Business Manager, Marcel Behm says of the major action, “Our aspiration for gaming hardware is to provide a balance of the best possible CPU and GPU performance, noise and longevity. Accordingly, with the bios update, we are pleased to offer improved graphics performance to both interested buyers and many of our existing customers.”

The firmware update will probably only increase the power dissipation slightly, with an identical target temperature for the graphics card, the volume will probably increase. Further information about this has not yet been announced by Acer. The update is available for users on Acer’s website. A release is still required for the Helios 300 PH315-54, but this should be soon.
