FRITZ!Box 6850 5G: 5G router finally comes to Germany

It took a long time until we could enjoy the FRITZ!Box 6850 5G in this country, too. The chic and fast router with 5G will be available in German stores starting in October. However, you should already bring along a bulging wallet.

What takes a long time…

… finally becomes good? Whether this is the case with AVM’s upcoming 5G router will only be seen in a detailed test. What is certain, however, is that the expensive piece of Internet technology has a long journey behind it. After the FRITZ!Box 6850 5G was presented at the IFA technology fair in Berlin in 2019, it will finally be available in Germany. While other countries were already able to buy it in the summer, German customers will now also be able to enjoy the latest router from the Berlin-based network company from October.

Already available in Austria

.
You don’t have to look far afield to find countries where the FRITZ!Box 6850 5G has already been available since summer. Austrian countrymen and women, for example, have already been able to enjoy the fast 5G router. And its performance is already reflected in a look at the technical details. The support of 5G is supposed to enable speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps. To accomplish this, the router is supposed to use standard 5G bands below a frequency of 6 GHz in this country. No available 5G signal does not mean no Internet at all. In this case, the FRITZ!Box 6850 5G simply jumps into the 4G LTE network.

Disappointing WLAN?

As with the 5G speed, nothing has happened in terms of WLAN performance since its unveiling in September 2019. This is rather negative in view of partly disappointing customer reviews. The device uses the AC standard. Unfortunately, this is anything but up-to-date in 2021 and would certainly have needed a makeover. After all, modern devices rather rely on Wi-Fi 6 or AX. A look at the MSRP is surprising in view of the somewhat outdated hardware in a negative sense. After all, AVM charges an MSRP of 569 Euros for its 5G router. A price reduction is probably only a matter of time.
