The Berlin-based network specialist will be showcasing new solutions for an energy-efficient smart home at Light + Building 2026. The focus will be on the compact FRITZ!Smart Thermo 303 and the planned Matter integration for the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro. Both innovations are intended to provide more flexibility, better interoperability and simpler control options for networked households. The FRITZ! brand is thus expanding its smart home portfolio and increasingly relying on open standards to connect devices from different manufacturers.

  • New FRITZ!Smart Thermo 303 enables precise heating control and energy savings
  • Support for the Matter smart home standard for broader device compatibility
  • Control via app, FRITZ!Box interface, FRITZ!Fon or smart home controller
  • Expandable smart home system with energy monitoring and automation

FRITZ!Smart Thermo 303 brings compact heating control to the connected home

With the FRITZ! Smart Thermo 303, FRITZ! is expanding its range of intelligent radiator controllers. The new model complements the existing FRITZ! Smart Thermo 302 and is aimed primarily at households and buildings that want to automate their heating control more efficiently.

The thermostat can be integrated directly into the existing FRITZ!Box ecosystem and is set up via the FRITZ!App Smart Home. It can also be controlled via other devices, such as the FRITZ!Box user interface, compatible FRITZ!Fon telephones or the FRITZ!Smart Control 440 smart home controller.

The most important functions include an individually configurable weekly schedule with up to eight switching points per day. This allows heating times to be adapted precisely to everyday life. In addition, the thermostat can automatically correct temperature deviations and records the temperature history of the last 24 hours.

Another advantage is the automatic window-open detection. If the thermostat detects a sudden drop in temperature, it automatically reduces the heat output to save energy. Optional door and window contacts also support this function.

The thermostat has also been optimized for public areas or apartment buildings. Integrated tamper protection detects attempts to dismantle it, for example. At the same time, functions such as automatic frost protection and limescale protection ensure long-term reliable use.

Thanks to its compact design, the FRITZ!Smart Thermo 303 is particularly suitable for radiator valves that are difficult to access, where larger thermostats often cause problems.

Matter integration of the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro extends smart home compatibility

In addition to new hardware, the focus is also shifting to software development. With the upcoming Matter support for the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro, the FRITZ! ecosystem is opening up more to other smart home platforms.

The open Matter standard makes it possible to operate devices from different manufacturers in a shared network. This means that in future, FRITZ! smart home products can be managed together with compatible devices from other brands in a standardized system.

The integration will initially be made available as part of a FRITZ! lab. This program makes it possible to test new functions before the final release. Supported devices can then be controlled via well-known platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home or Amazon Alexa.

AVM will also be showcasing other new products from its network and smart home portfolio at the trade fair. These include the FRITZ!Repeater 6700 Pro quad-band repeater, new routers with Wi-Fi 7 and devices for fiber optic, DSL and 5G Internet connections.

The company is pursuing an all-in-one approach in which the FRITZ!Box serves as the central platform for Internet access, Wi-Fi, telephony and smart home control. The system is complemented by energy monitoring products such as FRITZ!Smart Energy sockets or power sensors that analyze power consumption and enable automated switching.

This approach should not only increase convenience, but also help to reduce energy consumption and operating costs in the long term.

Conclusion

With the FRITZ!Smart Thermo 303 and the planned Matter integration of the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro, AVM is further expanding its smart home ecosystem. The new thermostat combines compact design, flexible control and energy efficiency, while Matter significantly expands compatibility with other smart home systems. The market launch and price for the thermostat have not yet been officially announced, but will follow at a later date.
