Galax HOF Extreme 50: This PCIe 5.0 SSD is said to be able to reach 10 GB/s

PCIe 5.0 SSDs achieve impressive speeds. Sure: The Phison E26 controller enables up to 14 GB/s at the peak and only in theory so far. The Teamgroup Invincible T-FORCE CARDEA Z540 already reaches 12 GB/s. The new Galax HOF Extreme 50 from the manufacturer in China wants to be similarly fast, even under continuous load, and it comes with a huge heat sink.

The Galax HOF Extreme 50 in detail

In the Chinese social network Weibo, manufacturer Galax has unveiled the new PCIe 5.0 Galax HOF Extreme 50 SSD from the “Hall of Fame” series. The most striking design feature of the white memory solution is first of all the gigantic-looking heat sink including active fan, which is supposed to ensure the speeds even under continuous load according to the manufacturer. In combination, the memory chip and controller are cooled to below 45 degrees Celsius.

Galax uses the already mentioned E26 controller from Phison, which is supposed to reach 10 GB/s in sequential read and 9.5 GB/s in write in this model and in the maximum size of 2 terabytes.

There are 1.5 million IOPS each for reading and writing, and the high random read and write rates should especially appeal to gamers. Using Galax Magic Disk Xtreme Tuner software, the firmware can be updated, the SMART status can be checked and the SSD’s temperature can be monitored.

Price and availability

The PCIe 5.0 Galax HOF Extreme 50 SSD will initially be released in China. The 2TB model comes at a price of 2,499 yuan, which is the equivalent of about 334 euros. In the US, the MSRP is 349 US dollars. The SSD also comes in a 1 terabyte capacity version, but no prices are available yet. There is also no information about a potential release on the European market so far.
