The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU casts its shadow ahead and should bring a significant performance increase for gaming notebooks according to first leaks. There is talk of up to 42 percent more performance.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU promises strong performance
Next year, probably already at the CES 2023 in early January, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU should be presented together with the first gaming notebooks for the coming year. A first leaked benchmark promises a significant performance increase.
Thus, on Geekbench the new laptop GPU can be found for the first time, which is installed in a notebook called Acer Predator PH16-71 – this notebook has also not been officially announced yet.
According to the benchmark test from December 27, 2022, the system is equipped with an Intel Core i9-13900HX processor with 32 gigabytes of RAM and the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 laptop GPU. It relies on a clock rate of 2,010 MHz and 12 GB of VRAM including 58 compute units, which is equivalent to 7,424 CUDA compute units.
Thus, it is clear that the laptop GPU will not reach the performance of the desktop model, especially since the TGP will also be limited to a maximum of 175 watts. Nevertheless, we can expect a significant performance increase in the gaming notebook segment.

42 percent more performance from RTX 3080
With an OpenCL score of 178,038, the RTX 4080 laptop GPU outperforms the last-generation RTX 3080 by about 42 percent, and compared to the RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU, it’s still 30 percent more performance.
That is at least the leaked benchmark. We will probably find out how much more performance is actually possible in real gaming tests in the coming week. There are many indications that gaming notebooks will get a significant performance increase in 2023.
However, it will also be exciting to see how much more power the new laptops will require and how that will affect overall battery life. It is also unclear whether Nvidia will also launch the top model RTX 4090 as a laptop GPU and when AMD will hit the notebook segment with the new graphics card generation around Radeon RX 7000 including Ryzen 7000.
