Gardena is expanding its portfolio with the smart Sileno free, a robotic lawnmower that does not require a conventional boundary wire. This innovation promises simplified installation and flexible lawn care for areas of up to 1,200 square meters.
Highlights
- Satellite-based navigation: The smart Sileno free uses GPS and real-time kinematics for precise mowing without physical boundaries.
- Easy to set up: Initial installation is carried out by following the lawn edge using the app control, allowing the robot to define its virtual boundary.
- Trim-to-edge function: The cutting unit at the rear enables a clean cut right up to fixed edges.
- Available models: The smart Sileno free is available in variants for 600, 800 and 1,200 square meters.
Satellite-supported navigation for precise mowing
The smart Sileno free uses a combination of GPS and real-time kinematics to mow the lawn without the need for a boundary wire. This technology enables the robot to precisely detect the lawn area and work efficiently. Unlike some competitor models such as the Segway Navimow 105E (Review | € 989.00 *), Ecovacs Goat G1 (Review | € 1,099.00 *) or RoboUp T1200 Pro (Review | € 1,639.00 *), the smart Sileno free requires neither additional antennas nor signal masts in the garden.
Although this should make it even easier to set up, it could also affect the mowing efficiency. After all, the robot does not mow lawns in a targeted manner, but rather randomly. The initial installation of the robotic lawnmower should be user-friendly.
Using the Gardena app, the robot is guided once along the edge of the lawn to define its virtual boundary. Thanks to the integrated LONA technology, the lawn area is mapped, which enables individual adjustment in zones and exclusion zones. This allows different mowing frequencies to be set for different areas of the garden.
Efficient mowing with Trim-to-Edge
A special function of the smart Sileno free is the trim-to-edge technology. The cutting unit, consisting of two blade discs with three blades each, is positioned at the rear of the robot. When fixed edges are reached, the robot turns 180 degrees and cuts as close as possible to the edge. This should significantly reduce the need for manual reworking at the edges.
Prices and availability
Gardena offers the smart Sileno free in three versions, which differ in the maximum lawn area to be mowed:
- smart Sileno free 600: For areas up to 600 square meters, RRP 1,299.99 euros.
- smart Sileno free 800: For areas up to 800 square meters (€ 1.672,56)
- smart Sileno free 1200: For areas up to 1,200 square meters (€ 1.905,20)
The models are now available for pre-order and should be available in time for the 2025 gardening season.
