With the Garmin MARQ 2, the manufacturer has introduced the second generation of its high-quality and luxurious premium smartwatches, which feature, for example, a new AMOLED touch display and a jetlag function.
The Garmin MARQ 2 in detail
With the Epix models, the Fenix series and the Enduro smartwatches with particularly long runtimes, such as the Enduro 2 presented in August 2022, manufacturer Gamin now provides a new luxury smartwatch to the side.
The Garmin MARQ 2 is the second generation of premium wearables and comes in a total of five variants (Adventurer, Athlete, Golfer, Captain and Aviator). They differ in terms of material choice and design.
However, the wearables described by the manufacturer as “luxury tool watches” have one thing in common: they all rely on high-quality and particularly robust workmanship. However, there are also some unique selling points in the software.
For example, the Garmin MARQ 2 Captain is supposed to be able to couple with the manufacturer’s chart plotters and display data such as water depth, engine speed, wind, user-defined data and more directly on the wrist. There are also regatta timers, an autopilot app and more.
The MARQ 2 Adventurer, on the other hand, is designed for outdoor use in rugged terrain and comes with, among other things, multiband GNSS with SatIQ technology, ABC sensors, including an altimeter for altitude data, a barometer for monitoring the weather and a 3-axis electronic compass and a ClimbPro function.
The Athlete model offers additional sports apps and workouts, the Golfer variant features a virtual caddy and more than 42,000 color CourseView golf course maps, and the Aviator smartwatch offers flight maps, a dedicated jet lag guide, HSI course line indicators and more.
High-quality design
From a purely technical standpoint, the models in the Garmin series hardly differ from one another. They all rely on a titanium and/or ceramic bezel and a robust case, as well as a 1.2-inch AMOLED touch display with a resolution of 390 x 390 pixels.
They are water resistant up to 10 ATM, which is far beyond common wearable standards. In addition, there is 32 GB of internal storage, as well as a particularly high battery life of up to 16 days in smartwatch mode and even up to 21 days in energy-saving mode, which is typical for Garmin.
There is also a lot to offer in terms of sensors. These include a sensor for measuring the heart rate, GPS, Glonass and Galileo, as well as a compass and various sports modes.

We have already been able to determine for ourselves that Garmin can build excellent fitness and sports smartwatches. In our review of the Garmin Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar, the model was able to impress in this area. Only in the pure smartwatch functions did the model weaken a bit.

Prices and Availability
The new MARQ 2 series smartwatches from Garmin are expected to be available in November 2022. Price-wise, there are sometimes huge differences. The MARQ 2 Athlete has an MSRP of 1,950 euros, the Adventurer costs 2,250 euros, the Golfer and Captain models are 2,350 euros, and the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator is the most expensive model (not least thanks to the stainless steel wristband) with an MSRP of 2,550 euros.
