Genesis GV60: Crossover e-car coming to Germany

The Genesis GV60 is the first all-electric car from Hyundai’s premium brand to come to Europe. The 4.52-meter crossover from the South Koreans is due to be launched in this country later this year.

Genesis GV60 in detail

Pre-orders for the new Genesis GV60 are expected to begin shortly. In the process, the GV60 marks the Korean premium brand’s first all-electric vehicle model and is scheduled to hit the market later this year.

The GV60 is the smallest model in the Genesis portfolio and is based on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), on which the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 models are also built. This 800-volt system is said to enable charging capacities of up to 220 kW, resulting in a range of 517 kilometers in the case of the Genesis GV60.

The GV60 is offered in a total of three variants. The entry-level model is the GV60 Premium with a 168 kW electric motor, rear-wheel drive and “a focus on range”. It is joined by the GV60 Premium with Sport Package, which is equipped with all-wheel drive. Here, two electric motors (160 kW rear / 74 kW front) are offered.

The top model, the GV60 Premium with Sport Plus Package, is a particularly powerful version with two 160 kW motors each and all-wheel drive. In addition, there is a unique drift mode and a boost mode that provides an additional 40 kW of power for ten seconds.

In addition to advanced safety systems, onboard features include a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a wireless charging cradle for smartphones. As with all Genesis models, customers can also choose from a variety of options with extras such as heated seats, a panoramic roof, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system and digital rearview mirrors.

Range details

Genesis does not provide details on range or battery capacity in its announcement. As the Auto, Motor und Sport reports, the Genesis GV60 will be offered in South Korea with a 77.4 kWh battery pack, giving it a range of 451 kilometers. At least for the premium model with rear-wheel drive.

The models with all-wheel drive, on the other hand, don’t last quite as long. There is talk of around 400 km for the GV60 Premium with Sport Package, and 368 km for the model with Sport Plus Package. That’s in line with the data Genesis published on the product website of the GV60. It also talks about the 77.4-kWh battery being able to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Genesis GV60: Interior

It is currently unclear when the Genesis GV60 will be delivered in Europe. The website states, “Available in Germany from spring 2022.” On the other hand, there are no details on the price yet.
