Gigabyte Aorus Extreme: 32 TB storage capacity and 28 GB/s speed

With the Aorus Extreme Gen4 AIC SSD, Gigabyte wants to be able to offer you up to 32 TB of storage space. The PCIe expansion card makes this possible by installing eight SSDs that each offer 4 TB of storage space. The SSDs installed are supposed to be the Aorus Gen4 7000. A prerequisite for the high performance of the flash memory is the Phison PS5018-E18 controller. The manufacturer, Gigabyte, does not only mention the maximum storage capacity, but also the speed. Thus, up to 28 GB/s (read) and 26 GB/s (write) should be possible.

Sophisticated ventilation

Gigabyte relies on a combination ventilation so that the flash memory is not threatened by overheating. Thus, the SSDs themselves are covered with matching heat sinks. However, the expansion card itself should also be able to offer an efficient cooling solution with its own fan. In particular, the Aorus Extreme Gen4 AIC SSD itself is said to have two axial fans that provide fresh air. The cooling concept is rounded off by the aluminum heat sink as well as a massive backplate. A throttling of the speed due to overheating should be virtually impossible. Gigabyte has installed ten different temperature sensors so that you don’t lose track of the flash memory’s working temperatures.

On top of that, the SSDs should also have corresponding sensors. The user can use the Storage Manager from Aorus for monitoring. Here you should not only be able to see the temperatures, but also determine special RAID modes. The software even allows you to choose one of a total of three profiles. If the PC setup doesn’t have a current PCIe Gen4 interface, it should also be possible to use a PCIe Gen3 interface without any problems. However, this naturally reduces the maximum speeds to about 15.8 GB/s.

Price and availability

We don’t yet know how much the fast flash storage solution from Gigabyte is supposed to cost. The company has also not yet announced a release date. By the way, the installed Aorus Gen4 7000 is only available with a maximum storage capacity of 2 TB in this country.
