Gigabyte X870E AERO X3D WOOD: Mainboard with wood look for AM5 systems

With the X870E AERO X3D WOOD, Gigabyte is launching the first motherboard with a wood finish on the market and is focusing on a stylish design that picks up on PC trends such as wooden elements in cases. First introduced in September 2025, it is now listed at retailers and is aimed at enthusiasts with Ryzen 7000, 8000 or 9000 who want to combine performance and aesthetics. The wooden look is created by PVC, which creates an authentic appearance, complemented by solid mid-range features such as DDR5-9000 support and Wi-Fi 7.

  • Wood look via PVC on VRM cooler and M.2 cover for elegant design
  • X870E chipset, AM5 socket for Ryzen 7000/8000/9000, 4x DDR5 up to 256 GB and 9000 MT/s
  • Dual USB4, 2x 5-GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 7, 4x M.2 (2x PCIe 5.0), X3D Turbo Mode 2.0
  • Price from approx. 420 euros, now available from dealers

Wood decor and clean design in detail

The X870E AERO X3D WOOD impresses with a minimalist layout with comprehensive covers on the front and rear that conceal unused slots and ensure a tidy look. Gigabyte uses PVC foils for the wood look on the rear VRM cooler and next to M.2 covers, which Gigabyte advertises as “authentic wood appearance” – not real wood, but deceptively real in close-ups. This was confirmed to ComputerBase on request. The accents are complemented by leather effects on M.2 pull tabs and subtle LED lighting, in line with trends in cases or the ASUS RTX 5080 ProArt.

The ATX board is based on the X870E chipset and AM5 socket, compatible with all Ryzen generations from 7000 onwards, including X3D models. Four DDR5 slots hold up to 256 GB RAM, officially up to 9000 MT/s via D5 Bionic Cooling and AI-optimized profiles in X3D Turbo Mode 2.0, which is said to deliver up to 25 percent more performance with X3D CPUs in games. VRM cooling with Thermal Armor Advanced, heat pipes and PCB thermal plate ensures stability under load, while a 16+2+2 phase design guarantees a stable power supply.

Mid-range high-end connectivity

The features position the board in the upper mid-range with a focus on future-proofing. Two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots allow dual GPU setups, complemented by a PCIe 5.0 x8 and PCIe 4.0 x4; four M.2 slots (two PCIe 5.0 x4, two PCIe 4.0 x4) plus four SATA ports cover storage needs. Networking includes dual Realtek 5GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 7 with MediaTek chip and directional antenna, and WIFI EZ-Plug for easy installation.

Four debug buttons on the I/O shield provide power-on, reset, BIOS flash and clear CMOS, practically without a housing. Dual USB4 Type-C with DP Alt-Mode and HDMI, plus USB 3.2 Gen2x2, round it off; a 32 MB BIOS is sufficient for Zen 6 compatibility without the hype about 64 MB chips. Features such as M.2 EZ-Latch (screwless), DriverBIOS with pre-installed Wi-Fi driver and 8-layer PCB with back-drilling minimize signal loss.

Feature Specification Advantage
RAM support 4x DDR5, 256 GB, 9000 MT/s OC High bandwidth for gaming/editing
Storage 4x M.2 (2x PCIe 5.0), 4x SATA Fast NVMe arrays possible
Networking 2x 5GbE, Wi-Fi 7 Future-proof multi-gigabit
USB/IO 2x USB4, debug buttons Plug-and-play, easy maintenance

Conclusion: Stylish AM5 board with a solid price-performance ratio

The X870E AERO X3D WOOD combines a trendy wood finish with practical features for Ryzen builds and stands out with its clean design and connectivity. PVC wood look, DDR5-9000, dual USB4 and Wi-Fi 7 make it plausible as a mid-range highlight, confirmed by Gigabyte’s specifications and retailer listings from 420 euros. Available from stores such as Future-X, ideal for builds with wooden cases – a visual and technical upgrade for AM5 enthusiasts.
