Gigaset has a somewhat different smartphone in the pipeline with the GX290 Plus. The German manufacturer does not only focus on a lot of performance at a fair price this time. On top of that, the company focuses on robustness and a powerful battery here.
Sensible upgrade
Gigaset fans might already be familiar with the name GX290. The smartphone of the same name for outdoor fans was already launched on the German market in 2019. Now Gigaset has made some sensible improvements to the smartphone. Besides a larger working memory, the manufacturer has given the rugged smartphone a stronger battery. The GX290 Plus is supposed to be launched in two different variants. While Gigaset targets one version at private customers, there is another that is clearly suitable for businesses. Thus, the German manufacturer is now positioning itself more and more broadly in the field of rugged smartphones.
The rugged outdoor smartphone
Gigaset wants to deliver a rugged smartphone in its GX290 Plus, which is characterized by a long battery life. In particular, the manufacturer relies on scratch- and shock-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the display. Furthermore, the outdoor smartphone offers protection against water and dust according to the IP68 standard. An octa-core processor works under the hood, which is supported by a 4 GB RAM working memory. Furthermore, the smartphone has 64 GB of internal storage. It is particularly commendable that it can be expanded by up to 256 GB via micro-SD. Of course, the GX290 Plus also has cameras. The main camera has a resolution of 13 MP. In addition to that, you can shoot great photos with a bokeh effect on hiking tours. The corresponding lens resolves with 2 MP. A front camera with 8 MP is also on board.
Durable battery with powerbank function
Of course, battery life is also important for an outdoor smartphone. And Gigaset has a lot to offer here. The battery of the GX290 Plus has a whopping 6,200 mAh. It can be charged either wirelessly or conventionally via cable. The USB-On-the-Go function is also practical. Thanks to this, other devices can also be charged with the smartphone’s battery. Thus, you can conveniently use the GX290 Plus as a power bank. The GX290 Plus is unlocked via the classic fingerprint sensor.
Special version for businesses
Under the name GX290 Pro, Gigaset brings a special version for businesses. This completely relies on the features of the Plus version. However, it has been awarded the “Android Enterprise Recommended” seal by Google. Thus, you cannot expect any differences in terms of performance. Gigaset does, however, offer a few subtleties that companies could certainly find exciting. For example, there is the option of engraving. On top of that, you can opt for the pre-installed software.

Those who are already planning their next hiking vacation now and are looking for a reliable smartphone might be well served with the GX290 Plus. March 2021 is supposed to be the time. Then the GX290 Plus (RRP: 329 Euros) as well as the GX290 Pro (RRP: 399 Euros) will be launched.
