Gigaset GX4: New outdoor smartphone with removable battery and 48 MP camera

After the robust and high-quality GX6, which we were able to test ourselves at the beginning of November, Gigaset has introduced another outdoor smartphone. The Gigaset GX4 relies on the typical features of the manufacturer, such as production in Germany and an exchangeable battery, and comes with a 48-megapixel camera.

Gigaset GX4 in detail

The Gigaset GX4 marks the official successor to the GX920 and hits the market just in time for the holiday shopping season. Thus, the new outdoor smartphone follows in big footsteps, as Gigaset itself knows.

The GX4 wants to score with a particularly robust exterior and relies on a TPU dual-injection casing and a frame that is made of aluminum, magnesium and titanium. It is protected according to military standard MIL-STD-810H and IP68 and can easily withstand drops from 1.20 meters as well as 30-minute dives in 1.50 meters deep water. In the event of a fall, it can also be easily cleaned with soap, alcohol or disinfectant.

Strong display, long runtime

The Gigaset GX4 relies on a V-Notch display with a contrast ratio of 1,500:1, which resolves in HD+ with 1,560 x 720 pixels. It achieves a maximum brightness of 550 nits and should thus also be easy to read outdoors.

Of course, the display is also well protected. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 provides a scratch-resistant and dirt-repellent surface and can even be used with gloves and wet hands. The GX4, like the GX6, relies on a 5,000 mAh removable battery that can be easily removed and replaced.

The manufacturer promises up to 45 hours of talk time, and listening to music should even be possible for up to 56 hours. It can be quickly charged with a maximum of 30 watts via cable and is thus 90 percent recharged in one hour on the mains. Wirelessly, a speed of 15 watts is achieved in the Qi standard after all.

Built in is the MediaTek Helio G99 processor with eight cores, in addition there are two SIM card slots, while the 64 GB internal memory can be expanded with the help of a microSD card and that to a maximum of 1 terabyte.

Dual camera on the back

On the back, the Gigaset GX4 relies on a dual camera, which is composed of a 48 MP main camera and an 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The latter is also supposed to allow macro shots. A maximum aperture of f/1.8 is achieved. A 16-megapixel selfie camera is located at the front.

In addition, there are many small details like a notification LED in the form of a spotlight ring on the back, a 3.5 mm jack and an FM radio.

Price and availability

The Gigaset GX4 will be released on December 08, 2022 in Black and Petrol colors and will be available from both brick-and-mortar and online retailers and directly from the manufacturer. The manufacturer’s RRP is 349 euros.
