Gigaset GX6: Outdoor smartphone with 5,000 mAh exchangeable battery

After the great success of the GX290 Plus and GS5 Lite, the Gigaset GX6 is another exciting smartphone that is manufactured in Germany. The GX6 presents itself as a particularly robust outdoor smartphone that comes with strong hardware and a 5,000 mAh removable battery.

The Gigaset GX6 in detail

The Gigaset GX6, like all of the manufacturer’s smartphones, is supposed to score with an excellent price-performance ratio and be particularly sustainable at the same time. The 5,000 mAh battery can be replaced. At the same time, the manufacturer offers security updates for up to 5 years from market launch and two major Android updates up to version 14.

By the way, the GX6 is manufactured at the parent plant in Bocholt, North Rhine-Westphalia, thus strengthening the regional economy. “In developing the Gigaset GX6, we wanted to meet the highest demands in the private and professional sectors,” says Jörg Wissing, Senior Product & Business Development Manager.

Technically, the new device builds on Gigaset’s first outdoor smartphone, the GX290, integrating wireless charging and a triple slot that holds two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time, for example.

Via cable, the large battery is charged with a maximum of 30 watts and should thus be fully charged to up to 90 percent of capacity within 60 minutes. Wirelessly in the Qi standard, on the other hand, takes a bit longer with a maximum of 15 watts.

Gigaset’s BatteryLife+ technology in the GX6 extends the battery’s life by up to 50% with a preset charging limit. If you are on the road for a longer time, you can simply pack a separately available exchange battery in the backpack and replace it by yourself.

Strong hardware, robust design

As an outdoor smartphone, the Gigaset GX6 is naturally also particularly robust. It is certified according to the MIL-STD-810H military standard and protected against water and dust with an IP68 certification. The case can also be easily cleaned with water, soap, alcohol or disinfectants.

The SoC used is the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G octa-core CPU, which combines two A78 computing cores (2.4 GHz clock speed) with six A55 cores and 2.0 GHz each and an Arm Mali G68 GPU.

In addition, there are 6 GB of working memory and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 system memory, which can be expanded by up to 1 TB via microSD card. Gigaset relies on a 6.6-inch IPS display that resolves in Full HD+ (2,412 x 1,080 pixels) and offers a customizable frame rate of 60 Hz, 90 Hz and 120 Hz.

The display is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with a scratch-resistant and dirt-repellent surface and reaches a brightness of up to 550 nits. Practical: A notification LED is also offered.

Other features highlights include USB 3.0, fast Wi-Fi 6, NFC and Bluetooth 5.2, as well as a 3.5 mm jack for headphones and headsets. The fingerprint sensor is located on the side of the case in the power button, and the programmable physical function key provides access to certain functions and apps at the touch of a button.

The GX6 also relies on a 50 MP main camera that has an optical image stabilizer. A 2 MP macro camera is also used. The front camera resolves with 16 megapixels and turns out quite fast with an aperture of f/2.0.

Price and availability

The Gigaset GX6 outdoor smartphone will be available in Titanium Grey from September 29, 2022 and also in Titanium Black from October in the manufacturer’s online store. It will then also be available in stores starting in October. The manufacturer’s RRP is 579 Euros.
