At the Google I/O developer conference, the company unveiled a new pair of augmented reality glasses that have some exciting uses. For example, the new Google AR glasses make it possible to translate simultaneously during conversations in other languages via real-time subtitles.
New Google AR glasses as simultaneous translators
The new Google AR glasses that the company unveiled yesterday are a concept for now. Whether and if so when we will ever be able to hold the gadget in our hands ourselves is therefore unclear. However, the concept is exciting, even though the range of functions has been significantly reduced compared to Google Glass.
In the video shown, Google demonstrates the field of application of the augmented reality glasses, which fade in subtitles almost in real time during conversations that are held with people in another language. This is even said to be possible in groups, as the subtitles are displayed directly in the field of vision of the person wearing the glasses.
According to Google, this is intended to overcome language barriers and offer a significantly higher level of comfort as well as a faster work pace than translating conversations via smartphone (again after each sentence).
However, Google did not provide any details about the technology behind the AR glasses. But the device is certainly exciting, because the areas of application are almost endless. We can only hope that the newly presented Google AR glasses will actually become reality at some point.
