Google introduces “My Ads Center” for online advertising

As part of I/O 2022 in May, Google had already teased the “My Ads Center”, which is now being launched worldwide. Its main purpose is to provide more control over ads and their content that are played out on YouTube, Google Search and Discover.

Google My Ads Center launches

To filter out inappropriate ads or sensitive ads, Google is launching the My Ad Center (My Ad Center) today. It’s designed to help manage the types of ads you see on YouTube, Google Search, and Discover. You can also block sensitive ads and learn more about the information used to personalize your ad experience.

Access and customization is done, with a Google account logged in, directly from the ads themselves. So you should be able to better determine your own ad preferences and, for example, be shown more ads from brands or topics that interest you.

Inappropriate or sensitive advertising, such as gambling, dating, alcohol or similar, can even be completely deactivated. And you can do it directly, without having to interrupt your video or online session.

“Imagine you’ve done intensive research for your recent beach vacation and now, after returning from your vacation, you don’t want to see any more vacation ads. With My Ads Center, you can simply click on the three-dot menu next to such a vacation ad and choose to see that type of ad less often. In addition, you can also choose to see ads for things that are important to you, such as deals on sneakers or Christmas gifts for your loved ones.”

Personalized advertising and privacy

Personalized advertising can also be completely disabled, via the Google My Ads Center anywhere you are logged in with your Google account. In doing so, personalized ads can be disabled not only on Google platforms themselves, but also on external websites and apps – on any device you’re logged into.

In doing so, Google once again emphasizes that privacy is a top priority: “We follow a set of privacy principles that govern what information we collect and what we don’t collect. These include never selling your personal data to third parties and never using the content you store in apps like Gmail, Photos and Drive for advertising purposes.”

Google had just added new features to its search and navigation app Google Maps at the end of September 2022. Among them, the new combo search, which uses the camera and, with the help of Google Lens, enables searches based on captured images.

Shortly before that expanded Nearby Share, adding the ability to wirelessly transfer files, links or even installed apps to other Android devices when they are nearby. For example, from an Android smartphone to a Chromebook or tablet.
