Google Nest Doorbell Gen 2 Unveiled
It’s not just a new router in the form of the Nest WiFi Pro that Google has unveiled these days. With the Google Nest Doorbell Gen 2, you can expect a new, wired video doorbell that succeeds the model from 2021 and takes up the design of the wireless doorbell.
The new model is said to be particularly smarter and easier to use, requiring connection with a cable. It is aimed primarily at those who want a reliable bell and don’t want to worry about running out of batteries or accumulators.
One hour of video content is automatically backed up directly to local storage. Three hours of event-based video recordings are also available for free, clips are always a maximum of five minutes long and can be rewound to any point. In combination with the News Aware Plus subscription, even 10 days of 24/7 recordings are possible.
Improved image quality
The Google Nest Doorbell Gen 2 is said to offer improved image quality. Especially in dark environments and on rainy days, the new 960p resolution image is now said to be clearer. The fish-eye effect is also said to have been reduced in the new edition, while HDR enables more details in the shadows or bright lights.
In addition, the video doorbell is designed for the smart home and can be easily integrated into the Google Home app. Routines can also be created in the app, where between sunset and sunrise, for example, the outdoor lights are automatically activated when someone rings the doorbell.
The video doorbell is also equipped with machine-learning capabilities that can distinguish between people, packages and vehicles and divide certain areas into activity zones.
Also offered is two-way audio communication, thanks to which you can talk to people at the front door. Alternatively, predefined messages are available as a response. The new model works with the existing chime or can be connected to a Nest speaker or display, which will sound an alarm when the doorbell is rung.
Price and availability
The Google Nest Doorbell Gen 2 is currently only available for purchase in the US and Canada, but should soon make its way to Europe. The MSRP is $179.99.
