Just a few days ago, Google unveiled the Pixel 10a as the successor to the popular Pixel 9a mid-range smartphone. At the same entry-level price, but with targeted improvements. But how big are the differences really, and for whom is it worth buying the new model? A look at the most important new features and differences from the well-known shopping portal idealo shows what has changed between the two mid-range smartphones and what has remained the same.
What’s new with the Google Pixel 10a
The Google Pixel 10a uses the same Tensor G4 processor, 8 GB RAM and a 6.3-inch OLED display at the same starting price of 549 euros (128 GB) or 649 euros (256 GB) as its predecessor. Google is staying true to its design, but the camera is integrated even flatter into the housing than on the Pixel 9a. Four new color options have been added:
Obsidian (black), Fog (green-grey), Lavender (purple) and Berry (red). At 182 grams, the Pixel 10a is slightly lighter than the Pixel 9a at 186 grams and retains the proven IP68 certification and aluminum frame. Android 16 is pre-installed and Google guarantees seven years of software updates. A clear argument for the longevity of the device.

With various bonus promotions for the market launch, you can also save a lot on your purchase. For example, Google itself offers attractive discounts when trading in an old smartphone, which makes buying the Pixel 10a even more interesting.
Google Pixel 10a vs. Pixel 9a: The most important differences
The most noticeable hardware upgrade concerns the display. The peak brightness increases from 2,700 to 3,000 cd/m², which results in better readability, especially in direct sunlight. Even more important is the change from Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (Pixel 9a) to Gorilla Glass 7i on the Pixel 10a. A significantly more robust protective layer that noticeably reduces the risk of scratches and display damage in the event of drops. For a mid-range smartphone that is used without a case in everyday life, this is a tangible advantage. The display size of 6.3 inches remains identical for both models.
In terms of camera hardware, Google has opted for continuity with the Pixel 10a: a 48 MP main camera, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 13 MP front camera are offered. The same features as the Pixel 9a. The real progress lies in the software.
New features include an AI-supported camera coach that provides tips for image optimization in real time, as well as the “Auto Best Take” function: The AI analyzes several consecutive group photos and automatically compiles the best shot per person into an optimized overall image. Google is thus deliberately relying on software instead of new sensors in 2026, a trend that runs through the entire Pixel 10 series. So if you regularly take group photos or want to benefit from smart image optimization, the Pixel 10a offers real everyday advantages.
Battery and connectivity
The battery capacity remains identical at 5,100 mAh, and Google claims a battery life of over 30 hours. Even up to 120 hours in extreme energy-saving mode. However, the Pixel 10a ups the ante when it comes to fast charging: With up to 45 watts, it charges faster than its predecessor, and both models support wireless charging. In terms of connectivity, the Pixel 10a comes with Bluetooth 6, while the Pixel 9a still relies on Bluetooth 5.3. A small difference, but one that is definitely relevant for the future.

Google Pixel 10a price: When could it become cheaper?
The experts at idealo have already provided a forecast for the price of the Google Pixel 10a and an estimate of when the mid-range smartphone could become cheaper in their blog post. The Pixel 10a starts at 549 euros (128 GB) and is therefore at the same level as the Pixel 9a at launch. If you are prepared to wait a few months, you could only pay between 430 and 440 euros by May 2026, according to the price trend forecast. A price drop of around 20 percent, similar to that of the predecessor models.
The Pixel 9a reached a particularly low price around five months after its release, i.e. in October 2025 (at the market launch of the Pixel 10 models). Here, the mid-range model dropped to a price of less than 400 euros for the first time, which corresponds to a saving of 27% compared to the RRP. So if you can be patient with your Pixel 10a purchase, you can save a lot.
Idealo assumes that the price of the Pixel 10a is likely to fall by 20 to 22 percent after just three months. Accordingly, the smartphone could only cost between 430 euros and 440 euros as early as May 2026.
Conclusion: Pixel 10a vs Pixel 9a – Is the upgrade worth it?
The Google Pixel 10a is a targeted model update instead of a real revolution. So if you own a Pixel 9a, you mainly get convenience upgrades rather than a revolutionary increase in performance. The most noticeable improvements are in the display and the AI features, which definitely make a difference in everyday use. However, if you are still using an older Pixel model or want to enter the Google mid-range, the Pixel 10a will be one of the most attractive smartphones under 600 euros in spring 2026. And if you have a little patience when buying, you should soon be able to save around 20% or more compared to the RRP, according to the price forecast.
