Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro: Day One update released

The new flagship smartphones Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro officially go on sale on October 28. However, buyers should directly update the software after receiving them, because Google provides a day-one update for the Android smartphones as of now.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with first update

As Google has revealed in its own community forum, a comprehensive day one update is available for download just in time for the market launch of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which comes up with many new features.

The patch carries the version number SD1A.210817.036 and should take between 25 minutes and 50 minutes to download, depending on your own network speed, according to Google. The update can be downloaded and installed as usual via the system settings under System –> Update.

What’s in the Pixel 6 Day One Update?

However, the manufacturer has not revealed what content and improvements the update will bring. It is only recommended to download the patch to enjoy “all the features” of the Google smartphone.

After all, the update already includes the latest Android security patch for November 2021. In addition, Google notes to update all apps to the latest version as well to enjoy all new features and optimizations for the Pixel 6 series.

Pixel 6 camera: app updates discovered within apps

At the same time, the first reports from happy buyers of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are making the rounds, testifying to a novel installation process. Specifically, this concerns the Google camera app of the smartphone.

Apparently, it no longer only suggests updates, but also allows downloading and installing them directly within the app. This is a novelty in the Android system, since apps always had to be closed for updates so far.

So far, this new installation process only affects the smartphone’s Google Camera app. It remains to be seen whether this will be extended to other apps in the future. After the update, Google Camera is available in version v8.4.167. After that, for example, Bluetooth microphones for camera recordings, as well as new controls for white balance and exposure will be unlocked. Google Photos or Spark already follow a very similar path.
